I was in a proto squad last night and we had a nice match of "catch the mythical intruder."
We spent the match frolicking the match away, shooting each other, because it placed our whole squad against one guy. Then, another guy joined, and it added him to OUR SIDE. Hello, it's 6 vs 1 and you make it 7 vs 1? The hell?
Towards the end, I was lucky enough to score an assist on him with my SMG. Almost killed me while I was laughing my butt off at him trying to hack the Terminal at the last few seconds of the match. Our team scored an amazing two kills and zero deaths. I was so proud. |

And I thought that game I played last night was bad .. 7 vs 3. If I remember correctly our "team" (I was being a lone wolf this time) scored ~29 kills and 1 death
Actually, our team suffered one death. The leader put a defend commission on a member calling in a LAV. Seconds later, the drunken RDV pilot dropped the LAV on him and squashed him, along with all his proto gear. -_- |

Until our server population numbers rise i'm not sure there's an easy answer. There's so much proto in pubs now that the job of the matchmaker is essentially impossible, imo. Tbh, i'm amazed it does as well as it does. About those Proto matches... Maybe they should let us input the value of our equipemt that we would like to commit to the battle, like say i comit 2m ISK to the battle and when i die 10 times in a 150k fit, am left with a maxium of 500k isk left to comit, so i either continue with 3 proto suits or swap to 10 advanced suits. And then Scotty matches ISK Commited vs ISK from the opposing team.
Well, if someone's losing 2m a battle in proto gear, they shouldn't be running proto gear. I don't die that often in STD gear. xD |

I don't die that often in STD gear. xD I think the bulk of that protogear is being paid for with PC income, so what we get in pubs are the most experienced squads running top-end gear, and they just don't have to care about ISK losses. The squad experience is almost certainly a bigger contributor to the stomping than the gear. The prevalence of protogear is basically the most obvious symptom of a deeper disease. But thinking about this situation is actually a fantastic opportunity to prepare for DUST's future: these disparities in wealth and income are going to be grossly magnified when we connect to EVE. These problems we are discussing need to be solved with that in mind. The punch line is that gamemodes and matchmaking need to be able to accommodate a significant portion of the playerbase who have basically unlimited wealth. This is our chance to get that right before things get really messy.
Well, luckily, the SP costs still bar a significant portion of the populace from using full proto fits. Those that can, often have built up enough ISK over their careers that they go proto all the time already. In competitive, you basically have to go full proto and in pubs, there's little risk in going full proto. |

I thought 7 versus 1 was bad. Well, yesterday I played a 8 vs 0. Yes, no enemies, AT ALL.
It started as a 7 vs 1. I called out a Tank, drove it to the middle of the field, got out and placed an Uplink. My squadmate hops into the driver's seat and drives it forwards. Turns out the single enemy in the match has a Forge. Blows up the tank that was stolen from me and leaves the match, just as another guy enters, making it a 8 vs 0. Everyone made money except me, because I had my tank stolen by a squadmate and then destroyed by the enemy's parting shots. Fail. |
