What I found is alot of AR users have no idea what they are doing, this isn;t even just new players who can be forgiven for their lack of knowledge on how to fight v a Laser Rifle user, I had guys in proto's using Duvolle's thinking they can kill me (in adv with a militia Laser Rifle) at MY optimal range .. when I came up v someone who knew what they were doing they rushed at me using cover and turned the battle in their favour because now we're fighting at THEIR optimal range and not mine
This post isn;t from someone who doesn;t want their weapon nerfed this is a post from someone who had never used the Laser Rifle til yesterday so my conclusion is that the only people QQ about Laser Rifles are people who don't know how to use their own weapons
Right now I think weapons are perfectly fine but people need to actually learn how to play the game properley eg use cover, work together, pick your fights ..
I main the Laser rifle and just last night was standard stomping with it. I had several games with 15+ kills, 15+ assists and none to a handful of deaths against protogear in standard gear. I'm pretty sure I know how to use it.
The Laser rifle has numerous issues that I will, again, reiterate.
- It does not gain damage at higher tiers, unlike every other weapon type.
- A Viziam does 280 damage at optimal range per second while a Duvolle does over 460. Of course, the Duvolle will be dealing less at Laser Rifle optimal range just as a Laser Rifle will be dealing less at Assault Rifle optimal range.
- A Laser Rifle has to heat up to deal damage anywhere near as quickly as an Assault Rifle. If you heat it up on the target, they flee. If you heat it up off the target, they're gone by the time you get them with it unless they are wide out in the open.
- A Laser Rifle has a 20m optimal span. A few meters too far away from this does one tenth the damage, ten meters too close and you're doing a third less, easily.
- It's easy to keep someone in Assault Rifle range. Anyone can run for a maximum of a second and a half and be outside of Laser Rifle range and safe.
- If an Assault Rifle user ducks under cover, the Laser Rifle's damage is reset to squirt gun strength. The Laser Rifle user cannot circle around due to the distance making the circumference of the strafing circle too large. The Laser cannot move forwards or backwards by more than 10m without nerfing their damage.
- If a Laser Rifle user ducks under cover, the Assault Rifle user can run forward and simultaneously increase their damage and lower the Laser Rifle's. The Laser Rifle could run backwards too, but this forces them out of cover and will result in their death before range can be restored.
- If a Laser Rifle user faces a Duvolle Tactical Assault Rifle, they could be looking at more than 2 times the DPS potential against them within the Laser's optimal range. The Laser's optimal starts at 65 and the Tactical's ends at 60. The tiny fall off means the Tactical will be doing more damage any way you can possibly slice it. The Duvolle Tactical has a maximum DPS potential of 520 compared to the Laser Rifle's starting 280.
- Weapons that deal more damage the longer you hold them cannot break even on DPS because other weapons can kill them long before they build up significantly.
Despite all this, the Laser is a good weapon. It just doesn't scale well. It needs to get its damage boost back for going proto and a drop off that doesn't make it deal a tenth of optimal damage as soon as you're three meters (half a second of walking for most suits) out of range. It would also be nice to swap the cool down and heat build up skills so that the heat build up is the weapon skill and the cool down is the Amarr Assault bonus.
At the end of the day, I use my Laser and have fun with it. With the Assault Rifle, it's easy to plow through people. With the Laser Rifle, if the enemy has a brain and isn't already engaged in combat, it can be hard to get kills. It's frustrating to have the enemy duck into cover for a few seconds and have to lose your damage boost and go back to 2:1 in their favor. It's a pain the butt having to let it cool down while also remembering to reload. It's annoying when some Assault nut rushes you the second you take cover and now you're doing 25% damage.
In my experience, you want to be looking out onto an empty field, large stretches of tar or popping snipers before they can move. If there's any cover where you're aiming and the enemy is any good, you can forget it. |

Now if the laser rifle had a lot longer range then other weapons in its class the short and medium range penalty would make a lot more sense, but this is not the case. slap a proto specced smg on that ***** problem solved I know I use my SMG a lot, but if I just specced into a proto AR I wouldn't need to use either. i think ar needs more extreme drop off seems to me the lr has 10x more drop off than ar. both on the outside and the inside of its optimal range
The inside isn't too bad, but dropping from 120% to 12% shield damage in the blast radius of a grenade on the outside is hilarious. |

meri jin wrote:Why is ever buddy comparing their favorite weapons with the Duvolle? The Duvolle is not a general weapon, it is the highest of all AR that you can buy in the marked. Don't compare your Meta 0 crap to a prototype weapon!
Every weapon has tiers. I compared the Viziam to the Duvolle which are the proto weapons of their classes. Not that it matters, since the Viziam does the same damage as a standard LR, which was part of my point. |

That sounds like fun. Finally, a way to kill reds that flee behind crates. |

If it had the highest TTK I would be pretty happy. Well, maybe I wouldn't. Then everybody would move to Scramblers. |

It would be wonderful is the Laser didn't have a 19m optimal span walled by a cliff drop on the outer edge that makes the damage fall to a tenth. The Duvolle Tactical has twice the base DPS at fire cap within laser optimal range, plus it has a 60m optimal span. Even if both shield tank and the Tactical doesn't hit the cap, it's still doing more damage. Provided it isn't an idiot and lets the Laser heat up for several seconds without killing it, the Laser will die.
The Laser's DPS needs to be higher at higher levels. It's the only gun that does not get better when you jump to proto. Sure, it heats up 10% more slowly, but if someone honestly thinks that that is boosting their kills significantly, they need to get their head checked. Every time you go into cover, or the enemy does, your bonus gets reset. You'll be lucky if you can hold it long enough to reach that last 10% of the bar. Maybe if you fire at a wall for four seconds before strafing out of cover you can hit it, but you're playing with fire if you enter that 10% anyways considering how much higher the feedback damage is. |
