Yes, it is worth it, especially when you're starting out. The bonus is applied before armor plates and shield extenders, so the health it gives depends on your BASE health. So, if you're suit naturally has 180 armor, each rank is worth 9 points of armor. The reason why I say that it's more useful starting out (although it's always very useful) is for this reason. As you move up in gear, more and more of your health comes from plates and extenders, so the percentage of your total health the bonus makes up starts to be less.
I recommend only raising them to 3, at first. In fact, I recommend raising skills to only level 3 when starting out period. When you've got nothing, several skills with two to three levels are better than one with five. For example, let's say you have a basic Heavy suit, which starts with about 400/400 HP.
With Core Armor 3 and Core Shields 3.
400 * 1.15 + 400 * 1.15 = 920.
With Core Armor 5.
400 * 1.25 + 400 = 900. |

These skills are the last things you need as a logi...this is because logi dropsuits have the least amount of health.
The only reason I have mine at level 4 is because my secondary role is a heavy.
If anything, don't skill into shield upgrades past level 2, and armor upgrades past level 3 (minmatar logi has more armor). At least, not until you have gotten everything else that you need.
Trust me, I want to say you get like 5 shield per level and 6-8 armor. It's just not worth it.
For me, it was worth going for them with my STD Amarr logi with two sets of plates and an extender. I usually survive Thale shots with as little as 4 armor and Charge Sniper shots with as little as 30. Actually, I survive a large amount of firefights with under 20 armor, no joke. I went 17 kills, 11 assists and 0 deaths recently. I was ten health from death probably five times or more against Heavies and Snipers.
Of course, that's unusual I suppose. |
