I would disagree with the assessment that armour is inferior to shields at this point. Both now have their pros and cons, and neither is straight out superior anymore.
Why do I use Gallente suits? For pride, and for my playstyle. I play Gallente FW and the logi fits my combat/support playstyle perfectly. |

They repair themselves and others well, they have lots of space for electronic warfare, and they are quite proficient with drones to assist them. The Amarr, on the other hand, are designed for brutal all out fighting. They have more health and more firepower than anyone else.
In short, the Gallente are intended to be more calculating, relying on tactical advantages and picking when the fight suits them. The Amarr are designed to be ready when the fight comes to them, because we all know that with complex armor plates they aren't really going anywhere..
I'm not really sure about this. The Amarr suits tend to have excellent firepower by virtue of their laser weapons bonus or the extra sidearm, but in terms of tanking and the rest of the slot layout the Amarrian suits have always seemed a little... confused to me.
It seems like they're intended to be some kind of shield/armour tanker, a role which they have traditionally eschewed in favour of lots and lots of heavy armour plating. Not that they can't do that, of course, but the slot layout seems less conducive to that form of play rather than, say, a Gallente suit. |

Recently, Gallente medium frames (both Assault and Logi) are a great choice, due to the high amount of HP and the possibility to use Damage mods without losing your main tank. The speed penalty has been reduced as well.
Not to mention that you probably won't be using Complex plates (unless you want to go Ferroscale), so you save A LOT of PG and CPU! I run Enhanced plates on Gallente dropsuits.
They also are the best "cheap" suits to farm ISK, because of the 3 low slots at STD level.
In other words... they are great! And quite sexy too! Shields can win against ARs, depending on the skill of the Shield user. Armor will never win against Grenades regardless of skill. Good luck dodging OHK Core Lotus with a 10%+ movement penalty.
The current state of grenade spam and power means that they are easily the biggest killer of armour suits. The vast majority of my deaths come from core locus grenades, which are enough to OHKO me several metres away, even in a protosuit. |
