Hello Mercs, I'm new to the game (10 days) and I have some... ehm... A LOT of questions. If you're willing to help me (thank you!), prepare for a lot of text... sorry...
So, here we go:
1. I started trying the Scout class and my first thought was: Oh my God, this game is incredibly hard... but I was wrong! After 1 week of frustration, I made another character to try Assault and... whoa, it's amazing! I got my butt kicked out of the Academy in 2 games... (on a side note, isn't the Academy way too quick?) but it's much better now! Enough said, I terminated the poor Scout guy and I'm having a brand new start with this Gallente girl. I think the Assault class is much better and I'm loving the Scrambler rifle and the Assault rifle is pretty good too.
I just played the Academy with this character so far, but I'm ready for the merciless world out there, this time!
So... about my build: I'm getting better armor plates and repper for the low slots and I'm considering Damage mods for the high slots, but I haven't spent my SP into them yet. Is this a good build? Considering my suit (Gallente assault) and my weapons, would you recommend something else or my idea is just fine?
2. I'm LOVING tanks, but they are too expensive. I managed to keep my tank (Soma) alive for a whole match, but it's not easy. If I die, it takes 2-3 games to get back all the ISK. Of course I'm using just the Militia stuff, so my tank is weak, but... is there any way to reduce their price? Or to gain more ISK? Or better tanks are so good that you can stay alive easily?
I think I should get a Madrugar and then better Heavy Repairer and Hardeners for my tank and maybe a Plate, but will I be able to fit all this stuff? The Active scanner is helpful to me as well. I like it. Would you recommend anything else?
3. Where can I make a "Looking for Corporation" thread? I've tried DUST University with my biomassed (lol) character, but I didn't like it too much. I was looking for some "instructors" or something like that, but the majority of time I just ended up squadding with people like me, without any experience, who often play much worse than I do, though. I have a lot of experience with FPS games, at least, so my gun game is decent.
What I'm looking for is a bunch of friendly players with some experience, so I can learn from them. I'm tired of losing match after match, I want to experience some actual team work. I'm used to cooperation with my team in other games like Battlefield or CoD and I want the same here, but unfortunately my friends don't like DUST too much... *disappointment*, so I'm alone in this adventure.
I'm 24, EU timezone, my mic is NOT working, so I have to purchase a new one. I'm planning to get a full headset this time, but I work part-time and I don't swim in money, lol. It will take at least 1-2 months for me to get one. English is NOT my language, so it's going to be a bit challanging to communicate with other people, but I'll try my best.
Thank you very much, any input will be greatly appreciated!
See you on the battlefield! |

Hey there, nice to see some new faces around!
Too bad I haven't much time right now, but I will still try to answer your questions quickly.
1. That build is beast, it's the best build for an armor assault. Go ahead, Armor tanking and Damage mods!
2. Tanks... this is so complicated... I run tanks. If you really want to be into this, get the Madrugar like you say. You will need those Armor modules, you're right about them. I might recommend getting Nitrous as well. On armor tanks I run 2 active hardeners, 120mm plate, Heavy Booster, Scanner and Nitrous.
Unfortunately, they ARE ungodly expensive and they are quite easy to kill. Tanking is challanging and it requires a lot of experience to be effective. If you love them, I'm not here to stop you, but it's going to be a tough path.
Anyway, you might want to know that vehicles will be rebalanced in the future updates (possibly 1.7, so December or later). This will change A LOT of things. You can find the thread in "General Discussion", sticky blue topic.
3. Good luck with it. I really hope you find a decent Corporation that helps you, I know how important it is. Try scrolling the Recruitment threads in the proper Forum section, you might find what you're looking for! |

I would at least suggest that you add the Learning Corporation chat channel. We have at least 3 experienced tank Instructors, as well as experts in many other fields. I am not sure exactly which resources are available in EU time, but there are usually some experienced players in Learning Coalition chat to answer questions. If you find that there are not enough experienced players in there in your time zone, let me know and I will start doing some targeted recruitment for EU instructors.
My corporation, Immortal Guides, is acting as the feeder corp for the Learning Coalition, so it is mostly just me and a lot of very new players. I lurk in Corp and Learning Coalition chat on my EVE character, and check it for questions every time I pass by my computer, so I am able to answer a lot of questions that way. I am also happy to answer any questions posted on our forums, or sent to my EVE character via in-game mail.
I would love to have you in my Corp, but at the very least, join the Learning Coalition chat channel. |

1. the Gallente Assault is the direction I would go if i weren't already focused on being an amarr logibro. that looks like a good role to go into.
2. If this is the same character as your Gallente assault I would suggest stop and do either tanking or gallente assault. tanking is not s viable a role as it should be yet because they (CCP) are going to revamp the whole vehicles system in a few updates to my knowledge. also it takes a long time to get money for tanks as well as skillpoints in my opinion unless you are active and have boosters. if you still want to go into tanking make sure you are driving it in a starter fit. this way if your tank gets destroyed you won't lose isk from the suit you weren't even using. otherwise its mostly being aware of your surroundings. is their a friendly LAV that just got destroyed super fast (which means good Anti-vehicle weapons)? are there a lot of enemy installations around the area you're moving through, are there swarms traveling across the sky, where are all your team-mates to support you as infantry.
In Dust its good to be role specific. that means focus on your job and be as much of a bada** at it as you can. if you focus on two roles then that means you'll be mediocre at both. plus vehicles and dropsuits are two completely separate areas where as if you had two different dropsuit roles then at least some of the mods and passive skill bonuses still apply to the other role.
3. Corporation Recruitment is the board to look in for posting something like that. my corp has a ' PE squad up ' channel so maybe if you join that we can squad up some time.
Best of luck and welcome to the game. |

Scouts? Tanks?
"Abandon hope all ye who enter here"
Scouts are horrible broken right now in comparison to Medium Suits(not in a good way either) and the majority of vehicles are getting removed soon for "reworking" which is code for being slapped around with the nerf ball bat in the shed out back before being reintroduced to the game at some undetermined point.
People may disagree but to spare yourself a lot of anger and rage later on you would be best to go Assault or Logi and wield an Assault Rifle. It is pretty much the ONLY way to play this game right now. |

Learning Coalition spam aside (heh...)
1) Solid fit 2) Stay away from tanks if you ever want to keep ISK in the bank for advanced suits 3) There is a recruitment forum on this board

If you're considering Gal Assault, you should take a look and compare it to the Amarr logistics suit. Same slot layout and a little less speed in exchange for 3 equipment slots. |

Can't say much that hasn't already been said. Specialize now, and then after you have 20 mil SP start expanding elsewhere. Tanks are ISK sinks if your playing them you won't have ISK for anything else. My advice stay away until you can make ISK form foot.
Not sure how much teamwork we use, but you can always join our corp. We have players that have been playing since closed beta, beginning of open beta, (most of us older players are on everyday) and just a few months ago. We do our best to help new players along. |

Perhaps someday, the Scout will be a sound option for a clever newcomer. As you experienced firsthand, we've got a long way to go. You've made a solid observation and a sound decision (in my book).
Assault (or Slayer Logi) + Assault Rifle is your best bet starting out. You'll wreck face at minimal SP investment (compared to other builds). Its amazing how effective the AR is up-close and down range with a little SP investment. You can't go wrong with this gun.
Good news is that everything you skill into as a Medium (suit excluded) will come in handy should you later decide to try out the Scout again. Many (perhaps most) of the great Scouts migrated from MedFrame.
Best of luck out there!
