Started up an alt and drew up a skill plan to get me to a good start early on. This is what I came up with thinking it could be a pretty decent standard fit until I can get more pg/cpu to fit an ADV weapon. Anything look wrong with it?
Assault A-I
complex shield extender complex light damage modifier
basic armor repairer (would a reactive plate be a better choice here? Only have the 1 slot and wasn't sure)
scrambler rifle scrambler pistol (may go flaylock instead, haven't decided just yet)
locus grenade
Would have shields&armor upgrades at IV so 505 eHP if my math is correct. |

Everyone, their mother, and their dog, will tell you that you should put an armor repairer in your sole low slot, and that reactive plates are terribad.
They are mostly right. MOSTLY.
Me? My 'cheapfit' Assault A-1 actually runs a basic-level (or Militia-grade, if you're really strapped for ISK) plate, and K17/D repping/resupplying nanohives. Since this requires Nanocircuitry 4, I can't really recommend that particular option, but at Nanocircuitry 2 you get Compact Nanohives that pretty much do the same thing, but with only one hive and a VERY limited set of nanite clusters.
But it also only requires 10 CPU and 2 PG to fit. So my advice would be to actually set up three fits, one with a repper, one with a reactive plate, and one with a basic plate+compact hive. I'd also recommend Scrambler Pistols, as they are very similar to the Scrambler Rifle, thus making you pretty instantly comfortable with it.
I'd also suggest trying out a full-gank setup of dual damage mods in the high slots, to see if that fits your playstyle better.
For the record, I also like to run the A/1-Series Amarr Assault with dual plates and K17/D, but that's because I also like Commando dropsuits where you will automatically run a plate+rep hive combination. |

Your fit is actually pretty solid - but what about a nanohive? They tend to be important, though perhaps not quite -essential- for a scrambler rifle user. If you use the compact variant it can act as a quick rep as well as restocking all your ammo. Of course, it won't last much longer than that. |

Yeah, I omitted a nanohive because of the ScR use. Like I said, it's just what I've come up with through a skill plan sort of thing but I was considering throwing in scanners/REs for the equipment slot depending on whether or not anyone else was scanning at the time, compact nanohive did come up but I'm waiting to see how things go first. I'm still <1m sp this is just a really thought out skill plan. ;p Thanks! |

Level 2 Nanocircuitry for compact nanohives is quite cheap, and means you can run a basic plate instead, and gain 85 armor points.
Alternatively, I think you'll find a flux scanner is great for finding people to pick off at your scrambler's optimal range, before they get too close. I often run with the advanced version on my Assault A1 and it often proves more useful than a hive.
I'd still prefer a basic plate than a basic repairer with a single slot. I'm even considering running dual plates on my advanced suits. |
