Ok so let me start this off by saying that I'm not trying to force heavies into one particular playstyle, I was just trying to come up with ways to make up for the fact that Heavies can't use equipment, and are therefore cut off from accruing the WP's that the rest of us can. With the amount of WP's that can be gained from equipment (Drop Uplinks, and Active Scanners especially), I thought maybe they could use some love. If nobody likes the idea, or it's already been shot down in previous post (I'll admit, I'm feeling too lazy right now to use Search), then feel free to shoot it down again.
I think that Heavy Suits should receive Bonus WP's for being within 25m of a Friendly controlled Point (A, B, C, etc.), at the rate of 1 WP every 4 seconds. This works out to be 15 WP's for every minute that Heavy "defends" that point, which would give a maximum of 300 WP's that could be earned over the course of the match. Also, I think that Heavies should receive a 20% bonus per Kill/Assist that they earn while in that 25m radius. Whether that extra 20% should stack with Squad Orders as well, I will leave open for debate, but I think that these Bonus Points should make up for the lack of equipment.
Like I said, I'm not trying to limit how Heavies want, or choose to play, I'm just tossing out ideas I think could help. Thoughts? |

I play a Heavy, and it sucks that when I defend a point from the enemy (ensuring that we win the match because they couldn't take it) I end up on the bottom of the "WP list" and am mocked as being "bad" because I didn't get 1000+ WP like the guy who drove around like an idiot running people down in a LAV (which does absolutely nothing to help your team).
At the very least remove them from FW / PC. Win / Lose / ISK Efficiency are the only stats that should matter there.
I'm not disagreeing with you on this, as I think that WP's make Dust a little too "arcadey" right now, but seeing as how CCP has already built the game around them I'm not seeing this change any time in the near future. So since WP's are a part of the game, and people (as well as the game, when it comes to awarding SP and ISK) judge players based off of WP's, we kind of have to accept it for what it is. |

Severus Smith wrote:I don't quite agree. WP affect two things; SP and Orbitals. CCP is already talking about decoupling orbitals from WP (thank god) so that would mean that in FW (where SP is not gained) WP's affect nothing.
So remove them from FW / PC.
Public matches, f*** it. They're pubs. But it is stupid that WP are such an important metric in FW and (less so) in PC. They shouldn't exist. The Caldari don't care how many Gallente soldiers you killed, or how many times you repaired someone, if you lost them the District. And I also doubt they would care too much if you won them the District.
WP just cause exploits and make people play poorly (so they can get more WP).
- Players let the enemy hack an installation so they can counterhack for 50 WP. - Players "suicide" revive others so they can get WP for the revive - losing 2 clones instead of 1. - Players wait for the hacking timer to finish on objectives so they can get 150 WP for hacking it (causing extra damage to the MCC). - Players redline snipe. - Players abandon an objective to chase a LAV with AV grenades hoping to get the 150 WP kill. - Players run and gun, amassing scores of WP but ignore the objectives. - Players spam equipment everywhere making it impossible to tell a strategic uplink from one placed in front of an enemy turret. - Players run stupid fits with equipment they shouldn't use to get WP (Repairers, Scanners, Uplinks, Hives) - Players don't defend areas because you aren't gaining WP while sitting still.
All of these and more are why WP need to be removed. They cause stupid behavior. Make winning the match = rewards and I bet you'll see more people playing strategically and less stupid spam / red line sniping.
One of DUST's selling points is that "Victory matters". In EVE "ISK > all". But the sad reality is that WP is greater than everything. Remove WP. Remove KDR. Make them personal stats. At the end of the match just show us the list of "winners" and "losers" and let us figure out why we won or lost. You will see better gameplay that way.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by SP not being gained in FW. I play FW exclusively and, unless there's been some recent change I'm not aware of, I earn SP every match. And again, I'm not disagreeing with you (except for expecting players to suddenly stop doing stupid things. You clearly have more faith in humanity than I do), but until CCP decides fully implement this total Reward System Overhaul, we still have to deal with the game as it is. Clearly you are against WP's in general, but do you think that this idea could benefit Heavies in the mean time (and after, as I'm sure there will still be game modes that use WP's)? |
