To older players this may seem redundant as you've been around the battlefield long enough to identify what your shooting at regardless of range but for new players understanding just what your enemy is capable of at a glance may be a little harder. This guide is to help newer players identify the different types of dropsuits and understand those dropsuits strength and weaknesses.
Basic Types- Dropsuits come in three basic types Light/ Medium/ and Heavy.
-Light- these dropsuits are the fastest on the battlefield with the smallest profile as well as the smallest amount of health. They have the lowest scan profiles on the battlefield so are hard to spot on the mini map or with an active scanner. They can carry a light primary weapon, sidearm, grenades, and one peace of equipment. They currently come in two racial variants Gallente and Minmatar.
-Medium- medium dropsuits are the most prolific dropsuit type on the battlefield and are generally the work horses of any engagement. They are highly adaptable able to carry a primary light weapon, sidearm, grenades, and equipment. All four race's have a medium frame variant. The frames come in two frame profiles Thin Medium (Caldari and Gallente) and Bulky Medium (Minmatar and Amarr). All four frames have the same hit boxes but the Thin frames will visually take up less of your screen.
-Heavy- The Heavies are the meat shields of the battlefield having the highest amount of base health but at the cost of movement speed and large target profile. Heavies are usually deployed as the backbone of infantry pushes and under no circumstances should be running around with out lighter infantry support. They can carry a primary heavy/light weapon, sidearm, and grenades.
Racial Types there are four races in the world of New Eden; the Amarr, Caldari, Minmatar, and Gallente.
Caldari Medium Frame- the caldari medium frame is the face of Dust 514. It is an ergonomically design clad in gray steel and made not for looks but because it works. The Caldari are the heavy shield tankers of the New Eden universe so expect any Caldari suit to be as tuff as nails for the fist health bar, but they usually fold like paper once you get them down to armor.
Gallente Medium Frame- The polar opposite of the Caldari the Gallente Medium frame is meant to look sexy as well as powerful. What you get instead is a man/woman in as exoskeleton of artificial mussels rapped up in green spandex. This often leaves you wondering just where all that Armor the Gallente have a natural affinity for is located. the Gallente have week shields but you will spend a clip and a half from an AR just trying to get down that second heath bar.
Gallente Light Frame- The more practical looking of the two gallente suits the Gallente Light frame is sleek, smooth, and actually looks like something a futuristic stealth solder would wear. A thin Green and Blue suit with little in the way of armor plates or shields it is renowned for its ability to evade fire and hit you in the face with a shot gun. A few bullets on target will most likely drop this suit but good luck hitting him/her.
Minmater Medium Frame- Some days you look into the void of space and wonder what the future generation of spacesuits specialized in construction work will look like. The answer is the Minmater Medium frame. Built to survive the depths of space this bulky utility suit makes no effort to hide it's origins on the battlefields of New Eden. Composed of bulky brown armor plates with plenty of padding underneath the Minmater Medium frame came from space and stayed to kick in teeth. It has a low shields, respectable armor, and the fastest grown speed of all medium frames.
Minmater Light Frame- As ridicules as the Gallente Medium frame may look it at least looks combat worthy. The Minater Light Frame looks like a brown spandex suit with skate board pads strapped on the arms and legs with a one eyed motorcycle helmet to top it all off. this suit is even faster than its Gallente counterpart so be carful when encountering in places it has room to maneuver. |

Amarr Medium Frame- There is very little time during combat when you turn a corner and find a hole group of Amarr medium Frames staring at you to realize just how terrifying a sight they truly are. This gold plated, trench coat wearing, golden eyed beasts are built from the grown up to inspire aw and fear. To the Amarr presentation is as much of a function of their suits as the armor and shields that protect them. Stocked with decent shields as well as armor this suits duel tank quit readily but have a slight emphasis towards armor. often totting scrambler or laser rifles they are often a shield tankers worst nightmare. |

Good read, but I think you give proto suits too much credit :) |

dustwaffle wrote:Good read, but I think you give proto suits too much credit :) Well i think it is in consideration of comparable stats. A new guy/girl might not have any prof, so that duvolle could be doing almost 30-35% more damage than their std. AR. (prof. 5, damage mod, and tier difference) and be more accurate at range, have 100-300+ more health, as well as the experience of knowing what they are doing. Don't even get me started on squads.
The stats don't look much better for other gun/suit comparisons. |

Needs a little more on the Identification side. For each suit you should start with a vassal description.
Caldari Medium Frame: Form fitting with featureless mettle plates over the face, eyes on the side just behind the face plates, small compact backpack. Caldari Basic Medium Frame: Caldari Medium frame suit, dark in colour, Black at proto level with glowing eyes. Caldari Assault: Caldari Medium frame suit, light in colour, White at proto level. Some versions of the standard level Caldari Assault suits can be red, tan, grey, or gray camo. Caldari Logistics: Caldari Medium frame suit with yellow highlights. The non yellow parts get darker at higher levels. Black and yellow at Proto.
Gallenti Medium Frame: Very form fitting, no backpack, four eyes.
You get the idea. Tell new players how to recognize the suit, then explain what they should know about the suit. You are doing fairly well on the second part.
