If i suddenly had the ability to manipulate the code, gameplay mechanics etc that defines the game known as dust, what aspect of it would change? how would i design Dust?
with the promise of of complete overhaul on vehicular combat, we are still left in the dark despite the charts and the current rate of progress. Threads with intents of discussing the changes turn into a AV-Vehicle war. the charts look and feel incomplete and since then we've had noCommunication with the devs.
so i decided to imagine what it would be if i were to have a hand in the design process. these series of articles would vary from dropsuit deployment, to PVE and to vehicles. This first Article will cover the Logistics variant of the Dropship. it is unknown what i'll cover next as college has not been kind to me, but i'll try to make these as often as possible
DISCLAIMER: this article discusses strictly the concepts behind the intended topic, whatever numbers or values i put in any of these articles are strictly placeholder, and should not represent the values in said topics.
First: lets define the word "Logistics" in military terms;
Quote:the discipline of planning and carrying out the movement and maintenance of military forces. In its most comprehensive sense, it is those aspects or military operations that deal with:[1]
Design, development, acquisition, storage, distribution, maintenance, evacuation, and disposition of materiel.
Transport of personnel.
Acquisition or construction, maintenance, operation, and disposition of facilities.
Acquisition or furnishing of services.
Medical and health service support.
That means that my design of the Logistics Dropship, or LDS for short has to fill a support role in the field; supplying ammunition, repairing armor, recharging shields and fielding personnel to various locations via mCRU. it has very limited offensive capabilities as result and i'll talk about this later, for now i'll get to its strength's, something that undoubtedly should be exclusive only to the LDS but other ships are limited in doing.
The Standard Logistics Dropship, equipped with a mcru, should contain a pilot, two gunners, and 4 personell
The first strength should be the LDS's ability to manufacture ammunition, as an option to replace mCRU functions, sacrificing a gunner seat and the 4 personell spots in order to install this option.
imagine that? the benefits of such a role is jawdropping, as vehicle will now have finite ammo if the rework isput into play. modules affecting the speed of the resupply, the amount per resupply cycle should be taken into consideration if implemented.
this can work by: and request-recieve method.
Say a ADS has dried out his reserves of ammunition on multiple strafing runs, and the nearest supply depot is across the battlefield. he can send a request to the LDS for ammo, which the dropship is marked for the LDS pilot, Locking on to that intended vehicle. once locked on, it can then begin manufacturing ammunition within that targeted vehicle's own cache. this requires a fair distance between the two vehicles and so careful flying is required. another thing, once the resupply begins, the pilot or the gunners cannot use their weapons. simple enough to avoid constant abuse.
once refilled and whatever services the ADS required is complete, off he goes back into the thick of the battle, Guns ready to blow their loads and delicious Tears, ah i mean kills to be collected.
another method could be a whole channel for vehicle pilots to go through, although channels like 514th wing and Condor squad exist solely for that purpose.
the second unique thing about the LDS and can be debated on if its a weakness or a strength is its lack of offensive capabilities in the form of turrets. now this IMO is a strength for me, because it forces me to go and perform the 3 Rs; resupply, repair and recharge. for the turrets, this is simple; a vehicular repair tool or VRT can be fitted for use by the only gunner available.
as to how it works for a gunner, its simple, as the pilot is flying around, the gunner can look all around the dropship, once finding a target he/she can lock on to it by the turret as it first repairs armor, then once armor is replenished, it switches gears and Assists in recharging shields. once its complete the friendly flies or drives away.
What if your under attack? well that i havent figured out yet, but im thinking of adding the VRT a secondary function.
in conclusion, the Logistics variant of the Dropship should fullfill the support aspect of the war, and should directly reflect the ground variant of its smaller cousin; to be a force multiplier by increasing the effectiveness of its allies.
please enter in the replies what else would you like me to talk in regards of this topic, ask these questions honestly and as if im a DEV (*Snicker*.. me, a DEV lol ahhh thats a good one) i will try to answer when im not studying for exams.
