Sad part about being sniper is that nothing in the game supports you, none of the maps have any conventional sniper points, and no I don't mean those tiny little watch towers at your base (Nobody uses those.), most snipers use DS to get them to the most ridicules sniper points, finding a good sniping point should be this complected, to make it worse counter sniping is more difficult as the best way to counter this is to do the same thing. None of the current suits support sniping, sniper fittings are very limited in options, heavy suit if you want more HP, Logi if you want more damage, Assault if you want the in-between, and Scouts are the worse, low PG/CPU, low slots, and the skill bonus doesn't help if the goal is to stay away from the enemy. All useful cover is on low grounded positions, which adds more to the lack of practical sniping positions.
Even in Beta, Dust has never liked Snipers, CCP has yet to add anything to support snipers and it doesn't help that snipers have to resort to flying to the top of some unreachable platform, which in turn makes CCP want to make more maps with anti-sniper. But maybe I'm being petty, Dust currently has rendering issues, which makes sniping difficult in a way it shouldn't, so maybe when ever they improve rendering Snipers will start getting some love. |

Sir if you please, I would like to hire you as a lawyer on behalf of the snipers. Also I stay away from the towers because I have sniped people and snipers in those said towers. Those are so easy to die in if you have adversaries with any aim. I love when people fly to platforms because my aim becomes to either kill them or make them jump and I just keep going back to those points so I can put charges in them til their lifeless carcass falls like a deadweight. You speak with a lot of insight and THANK YOU.
Sure, throw in a sardine sandwich and it's a deal! |

Come on, in the beginning you just sit there starring on the victory point and if someone was hacking PIFF he was dead.
That is too easy. Even snipers have to work ^^
So know, the sniper is out when someone reaches the basement of the victory point. But nevertheless he can kill him on the way to it.
And I think there are enough sniper places around. Otherwise snipers would not be able to kill me or my buddies :)
True, Dust at first made sniping too easy, but there were several reasons for that, poor map design, poor hit detection, balanced dropsuits/weapons, etc...... but as the game became more refined, the problems with sniping became more obvious, poor distance rendering was the first issue, terrain wasn't loading right, snipers would often appear to be floating and seemed to be invincible, and sniper targets seemed to so the same. Poor map design lead to things like Manus Peak, often the team that won was determined by who ever was on top of it, it would only take 3 good snipers to hold a whole team off, and other times there would be more than 9 snipers on the peak at once, which caused their team to lose cause the 3 people on the field couldn't hold off the 16 people charging them, while the remaining 3 AFK'd on the MCC.
The new issue is since Uprising a lot of the high terrain has been removed, now snipers are resorting to unfair tactics such as flying to unreachable areas, by using their insane height advantage they can survey the whole field with easy and kill who ever they want with little retaliation, the best way to counter this, is to counter snipe, so the same thing or fly up to them, this too is difficult most people bring a FG'r with them to shoot any that try to get close. CCP has tried to deal with this by making more CQC focused maps with fewer elevated points and more enclosed spaces, which is a good thing, but it doesn't help with the problem.
Sniping currently is pretty bad, but it's mostly gone unnoticed cause of the negative view people have on snipers. |

Artificer Ghost wrote:When I started up my Dropship character, I spent the entirety of Academy (Pretty much one battle, given my skill and the fact that they're new to the game) outside my ship and on the ground, doing my free-fit thing.
The entire team, and I mean literally the ENTIRE team, was sniping. I couldn't make this up. I maybe saw 2-3 people outside of their redline, trying to get the objective, but they didn't that far past me. Basically, 13 snipers basically dooms the match for you.
When Manus Peak was still a thing, many matches ended this way. |
