I only have 5m sp and as a logi all i have is adv suit adv weap and nearly proto equip with adv core skills .. i've spent the past 3 months with this character being pubstomped by squads of proto's and on this forum I see alot of people insulting people saying their opinions aren't valid because their KD/R isn't 2.00
My KD/R is getting nearer to 1 now im at advanced level but I was getting slaughtered when I left the academy and it has taken the past 2 months to correct the initial deficit of kills to deaths
Anyone else in a similair position where they are still feeling the effects of being a new player being thrown into the lions den and are close to going to a positive KD/R ? |

The average KDR for all FPS games will always be less than 1, due to suicides.
If you have a KDR of 1 or more, well, - You're above average!
In Dust many reckon a KDR of 3 as a benchmark for being called a relevant player, but this is a meassure for players playing on the highest levels, and by that I mean the top corps fighting in PC.
Most vets, like me, can use a gek and an enhanced suit and still go 20-0 in pubgames. This is due to better core/support skills, making my suit a little better than yours even though its the same with the same weaponry. We also have about a years worth of experience more than you. That beiing said, I see people with fancy gear playing like scrubs every day. |

This is my main, It's just that I haven;t had a negative KD/R in any match I've played in over the past 2 months and this character is only 3 months old so I must've really really sucked after leaving the academy to still be at 0.9 KD/R lol |

My old main that's a sniper has a 13.00 KD/R but that char was made in BETA ..
The reason my KD/R is so poor on this character is because i got absolutely roflstomped by peeps in proto squads when I started this character and whilst I can hold my own now hit detection is working and im in adv gear it shows that KD/R is mainly based on how long you've been in proto xD
The longer you've been in proto the longer you've had to improve your KD/R from the slaughtering you suffered when you started the character by other peeps in proto doing the same thing |

Well, yes and no. My KDR hasn't been below 5 since I went with scrambler pistols and a scout suit only, in the third beta build.
You don't need proto stuff to play good against proto players, the difference in gear from enhanced to proto isn't that much. What you need is a squad of "enhanced players" playing thight and with skill, it should be enough. I bet a lot of these proto squads are very good players anyway, and most likely they'll play with superior team co-ordination, so called "team fire", having an extra decent gun in every situation is a lot more important than having a Duvolle over a GEK.... |

It really depends, ive been in proto since the third month of release+- and the times ive been in a full squad i can count them on my fingers. Yet i still perform very well and need my Proto gear to go up against organized groups of players, the new players i kill are colateral damage.
The times i did join a group it was really relaxing vs Lone Wolfing it. |

Just have fun. KDR is only affection you, you are not penalized in any way shape or form, if you have a good or bad KDR. What counts is ISK and SPs. Play the way you want. So what if you die too often, just stay around other players, don't go out on your own, and you'll be fine.

KDR imo has never been a good quality check. They should really set a level or grade or whatever system just to make people play the game for some reason (epeen?). I remember MGO had a wonderful dynamic level system where you could actually level up or level down and you had a weekly "badge" for different things you do well. For Example:
You play really well, by capturing many bases in the base game mode: You'll be lvl 15 with the "Elephant" badge You play well, and kill many enemies: you'll be lvl 14 with the "Crocodile" badge You play bad ad kill many enemies with a good k/dr by headshot: you'll be lvl 10 with the "Eagle" badge
So the first parameter would show how high on the end match leader boards you usually are The second parameter would show how you actually play (AR master, CQC master, Hacker, Tanker etc.)
That would be a good way to see if someone actually play well or not. K/dr only is absolutely not a good factor. |

i roll in a basic suit... i dont know how to put less effort into it....
not my fault its funny to watch people fly across teh map when i kill them with remote explosives.... and its definatly not my fault like like to follow me into my minefields.
someties i even go hardmode and use militia/basic mods on my sever rather then complex extenders and ADV equips... doesnt change the restuls much

the people with 4+ KDR are the ones that ARNT counting their deaths...
my KDR is still around 3 because i do things like run around in a basic scout with knova knives, and roll new and interesting random and ineffective setups just becuase i can...
my in game KDR tends to be alot higher when im using my normal role... so technically im one of those people that shouldnt be having fun...
but i can tell you, i dont know how many times i died till the games done, and i have an absolute blast when im in my element, even against proto stompers (as long as my team leaves the redzone)
i belong to the top 300 club, im one of the people whos been here the longest, it gives me a natural advantage, so im better at the game without even trying to be simply because i made my mistakes a long time ago and learned form them.
most of those people you talk about (4+ KDR) belong to two camps, those who find competitive play fun, and those who are naturally gifted/have just learned from playing for a year.
you seem to think being competitive automatically means your not having fun, but the reason people play competitivly is BECAUSE they find it fun |

My kdr sucks because you jerks won't stand still. Lol. I am in same boat that my first month or so was horrible. I break even most of the time now and I can live with that.
Kdr shouldn't be important, but that stat does appeal to our competitive nature. If they added assists to the killboard a lot more people would be happy with their stats and that would encourage more team play. I would be happy seeing 5k 10a 8d.
Or an even better idea, you guys let me win:) |

Weird, then i must be an exception because i am having most fun when i am playing against stacked teams, enemies left & right and smack dead in the middle without thinking twice to close the distance towards 4-6 guys then taking them out or die trying. Sometimes you kill em all, other times you die, but you go AHA and learn from the experience.
My setup screen has 1 fit in it and its the only one i need, if i end up being rolled because of being disadvantaged, so be it and ill take the 6-7 deaths standing, but i will also be taking out 40+ of their guys.
Ive never run Fotm, tank, sniper or a lav in Dust, or hell grouped up to stomp, except a 7-8 times.
I am just having fun when my opponents are dying en masse...and the word Tactical Retreat is something i use rarely.
Hmmm... maybe i should get myself looked at of having psychopathic tedencies lol.

A higher KDR won't help your team, so it's a bad statistic to focus on. You can be a douchebag with a high KDR but little value if you:
- redline snipe (exceptions excluded) - squad-protostomp in pub matches - are always the first to ditch your team - plant explosives and go AFK - are a speedtanked scout, but don't want to bite the bullet in Domination - etc.
I'd rather get a high win/loss ratio, or more WP per match. It shows I contribute! |
