Pray, tell.
What were the objectives you hoped to meet by implementing the 1.5 DS camera?
What advantages did you think it would provide? What is it's purpose? What disadvantages did you think it would gain in the trade off?
I would be enthralled to hear this information. |

I like the "new" old one, I can see behind my ship enough to make a decision on where to drop my passengers!
[EDIT] how about dropship camera settings? |

I always seem to be on the wrong end of this, but I actually like the new camera angle more, it is definitely more suited to a non combat role, as the downside of forward targeting/aiming is tougher, but the distance adds a lot more spatial awareness and better flying. |

Assault dropships are being pulled soon, so I guess they're trying to focus on the non-combat side of things. Though with this current angle, I may as well go ahead and delete the incubus fittings now, if only I didn't like the handling on it sooooo much more than the pig of a brick the non-ads feel like. |

Oswald, you're not on the wrong end... just part of a group of us drivers (pilots?) who have a quieter, more mellow voice.
1--I wasn't in Dust through "The Beta Years", so I know there's an entrenched group of players here who have run the DS when it was cooler, more lethal, wild and awesome in potential, and apparently had only one nemesis: the proto forge gun. So you chosen few must HATE the current experiments with the DS...
2--I joined on just before the May 14th Release, and though I subjectively like the Release-thru-Patch 1.3 DS the most, I can still "adapt" to most of the changes, and I agree with Oswald that the 1.5 reworking is AT LEAST more likeable (manageable?) than 1.4's when it comes to non-combat. Haven't had enough time to fall into the love-trap of ADS---and that's kind of what the combat-armed Incuc/Ex chasis was... a sugar taste of the sub-orbital swirling dogfighting fantasy many of us got from that earlier concept drawing.
I like the support-role challenge of being a lightly-armed "transport"-er over the laser-fighter plane jockey dream. And oddly, in answer to your question "what is CCP's goal or intention with the DS flight controls", the devs seem to mention "TRANSPORT" and reward "TRANSPORT" whenever they talk about the DS at all, so we can sort of see the answer.
3--I'd like to hear from the THIRD portion of DS drivers out there, the ones who operated the DS since the early Betas but DIDN'T care about strapping guns to her belly and hunting prey---they became masters at delivering squads under burning-hot flak and rescuing fellow mercs who were forced into a corner by red dots.
It's still kind of early to get an opinion we can respect as a proper shakedown trial, but if any players out there fit into category 3 above, please post your DS opinion of 1.5 here. MOST opinions I've read so far seem to be from folks who prefer an ADS future over wimpy "transport" LDS. |

The earlier versions of Uprising 1.0- 1.3 were perfectly fine and better than this.
You could follow targets more easily even though firing through yourself because the camera was not as close to the ship. Also the camera would not glitch the **** out if you got within 10 feet of a wall or tunnel, where now it just basicallly breaks and blinds you the rest of the way. |

Several things: I'm from early open beta, and you're right. Most people commenting that they don't mind current camera may not have seen the previous iterations or realized why they are better.
Saying 1.5 is better for transport and 1.4 was better for assault maybe be somewhat true. But using 1.4 for transport I'd imagine was still easier in that you could see more of the screen and less of your ship (which is useless). I think it would be more accurate to state that 1.5 changes negatively affected transport ships Less than assault.
Anyhow I come from a history of side-gunners and transport since before that's all you could do. The reason most of us prefer the assault now is they nerfed all other dropship speeds and turning rates in order to showcase the assault as 'better' by increasing it's controllability as 1.5x over the base rate which all dropships used to be. Also many prefer ADS because there still is virtually no points in transport and I don't wanna play 15 minutes for 300 SP. Also there's hardly a need for transport, even in Skirm atm.
In other words we like the ADS because it's closest to what more DS used to be, and they made others worse in order to make ads "seem" better in contrast. lawl.
If you wanted a camera that was good for transport I'd point back to Uprising 2.0
~Here the camera was set far enough back that you didn't have your a** taking up 80% of the screen at any given time. ~ The camera also allowed for seeing TONS more around the sides (great for side gunners, knowing where to turn them). ~Camera didn't glitch out as much during close encounters with walls, you could un-stick yourself from being in a tight spot! ~Yes, you had to shoot through your ship, but since the ship was smaller on the screen, it took up less area, was still easier enough to guess where targets were if you Wanted to use assault ~this new 1.5 version of looking through ship to hit targets, when ship is 80% of your screen, means you have a LOT of moving back left, right, up, down to find where (inside of you) that target is at. And since these movements move your ship, and since moving your ship moves your gun that means you're missing 70% of potential shots from trying to find something that's right under your ****ing nose. I could maintain target on say, a LAV or tank with 99% hit rate before. Now it's like 20% and not worth bothering.
~and for following another dropship in the air to let your gunners shoot it out the front (or use ADS to fire) the much older version of camera was superior, Current one is near impossible in ADS without switching to first person anymore.

I can see that the new camera is for the transporters, I have no problem with that. And yes the ADS is leaving us so it makes sense. The timing is lousy though - I didn't want my ships refunded, I wanted them to go down in a blaze of glory. |

Um ADS was supposed to be leaving in 1.8 at the soonest
That's 3+ months from now. And it was going to be missing for 1-3 months.
So they should just wreck the ADS camera starting Now so it can go a half year being either worthless or missing?
hm?
