Likes are a really bad way of gauging a person's worth on the forums, honestly. There's a few people running around with 1000+ likes who post up some really, really bad ideas and even worse feedback, imo.
Basically, likes just means you have friends who are sheep-y enough to thumb up everything you post. I'm even guilty of this, though I've started to distance myself from these people. |

Logic doesn't apply to the Dust 514 forums, lol. There's a handful of people who's ideas are worth anything but the sooner you realize that ideas are nothing more than concepts and everyone has them, the sooner you realize just how insignificantly small a chance that those ideas will come to fruition really are.
As much as I would love to see a battle on an Oceanic Planet with submarine tactics like clearing the baffles (see Hunt for Red October) it's so far off from becoming a reality I might as well just keep it to myself.
Even then, a lot of people focus on what's good for the players and not what's good for the game. I'm sure we'd all love to have racial heavies -right now- but without inputting feedback on them before hand they're liable to be released with a propensity for OPness - ala the Tactical Assault Rifle and Flaylock Pistol on first inception.
Which is why I never understand the hatred some players show for the CPM guys (and girl) considering that they were never supposed to be there to represent the players - at least not directly. They're there to give sanity checks for CCP, keep them from doing crazy things and providing input to secure the health of the game, not to make the players happy. The CPM/CSM, in my understanding, is more akin to Politics and the first thing you learn about politics is that a politician isn't a master of making things happen... a politician is a master of compromise; sacrificing something to gain something favorable.
I kind of went off on a tangent here but the point is that likes generally just mean that you're good with the players - which might help your appeal to the community but it certainly doesn't support ones reputation. |
