I know there is a stacking penalty if I put on multiple 3% light weapon damage modules, but is there a stacking penalty if I put on one 3% and one 5%, or a 5% and a 10%? Also how does the stacking penalty work?
Like if I had 5 3% damage modules on, how much extra damage would I actually be doing? |

yes.

Stacking penalties apply to all modules under the same name category. Light Damage Modifier penalty affects all damage modifiers that effect light weapons.

Most modules are only useful to the point of reaching the 3rd penalized module. |

If you mix damage mods you still get a stacking penalty.
The penalty is applied to mods in order from best to worst so say you had one of each damage mod: 10% - no stacking penalty 5% - 1st stacking penalty 3% - 2nd stacking penalty
For this example the math looks like this: (1 + 0.1) * (1 + 0.05 * 0.87) * (1 + 0.03 * 0.57) = 1.167 = 16.7%
For your example with 5 3% mods you get: (1 + 0.03) * (1 + 0.03 * 0.87) * (1 + 0.03 * 0.57) * (1 + 0.03 * 0.28) * (1 + 0.03 * 0.105) = 1.087 = 8.7%

It was my understandingGǪ there would be no math.
My God! My head just exploded due to the maths. |

Ok so if I wanted to get the most damage possible what would be the best combination of the mods? I want to do as much damage as I can with my charge sniper.
I was also wondering if with the right damage mods and a thales sniper, if you could one shot a heavy.

The best damage results does not equal the most practical.
The best damage results would be a ton of complex mods but that's not practical.
To get the best while being practical I'd need a hell of a lot of information from you like your sniper rifle skill level, your suit and series, all the core skills that you have, and what modules, equipment, grenade and sidearm you have on that suit.
But to be really simple.
3+ complex mods would be incredible. Two complex damage mods would be decent, as well as A complex and an enhanced.
If you go with two enhanced you're better off using 1 complex. |

Just assume that I have a charge sniper, with sniper proficiency at level 5, and that I wont equip anything but the charge sniper and as many damage mods as I can. I don't know what suit yet haha, I'm still trying to figure out which would be best. |

Don't even bother with damage mods unless their complex. There are better things you can do with high slots.
Don't bother with more than 3 damage mods. I personally don't use more than two but if you really want more damage use the third. |

Yes, after the third damage mod they become a bit useless but with the thales if you can squeeze in a fourth CM then do it. the thales has enough base DMG for a fourth to be a decently small buff.
Gallente Assault/Logistics would be a good choice for just a sniper if you want defense and weapon damage. (Gallente Assault gives you a good reduction in weapon PG/CPU at proto level)
Caldari Logistics because all of the high slots but be careful that fitting will be a little weird.
I hope I helped somewhat, I'll be going to bed now. |

Thanks dude, that helped a lot. Im probably gonna build to the caldari logistics. I don't have a thales, but hopefully in the time it takes me to get my guy all set up I can get one. |
