Nice to see a good thread show up now and then, and this one is good. Thanks Sarducar!!
I'm not picky about the WP spread in most of these situations (Dust is trying to be SOCIAL, work-together combat, so the WP will always be spread amongst buddies). Note, it's hard to notice sometime in the heat of a match, but you ARE awarded FULL credit for a Kill you've made---you don't get a "robbed into sharing with your passengers" effect just because a passenger stowed aboard or tossed some last blaster rounds into the installation you pumped for 30 seconds to destroy.
I'm a cooperative gunner on HAVs--I'm often aiming behind the HAV to cover him from flankers while he makes his move, so:
---He'll score a LAV kill I didn't even see from my turret: He gets full KILL credit, a Kill Assist credit pops on my HUD.
---I'll strip the sheilds off a proto-swarmer behind us, who then is shot by freindly foot-mercs: I seem to recall getting Kill-Assist credit, and (I THINK) a Kill-Assist pops up on the HAV driver's HUD.
---We both spot an enemy installation and open fire, but the HAV's main gun reaches overheat shutdown and my smaller blaster isn't hot yet... the last few rounds from me finish off the installation: I get full Installation Destruction credit, and a Vehicle Kill Assist credit pops on the driver's tv.
---I'm the only one with the MIC, and I'm using MAP-view to probe the map and spot a pair of enemy HAVs about to climbing the highway to the north almost flanking us. I warn the driver, he backs up into a good ready cover position, and he's able to destroy the first enemy vehicle that is too far away for me to even help him fire at (the second enemy HAV retreats in shock): my driver gets full Madrugar Destruction credit, and the game gives a (earned?) Vehicle Kill Assist credit to me.
All of these above examples have happened to me, and there's just so much of a blend of circumstances that I'm surprised the game makes a different distinction in all these cases, but it DOES (sometimes so fast I don't have time to decide if I agreed or disagreed). So to me the current 'vehicle assist for passengers as well as driver' seems fairest.
I think I can guess your pain: Kids love to climb the firetruck and spray with the hose-gun, and they're getting the credit when they haven't even spent the time it takes to become a GOOD useful gunner yet. But..... there it is. |
