I haven't seen any response from Devs to the myriad requests about vehicle locks. I don't know if they are aware of the requests, if they disagree with the concept, if it is too expensive to implement.... not sure ccp take on it.
However, I have an alternative if they are fundamentally against vehicle locks for whatever reason. This won't really help with the stolen drop ships or stolen tanks, but it might help with preventing a lot of stolen LAVs.
That is, additional function buttons that allow you to deploy items from the vehicle without getting out of the driver seat or pilot seat.
I have had my vehicle stolen by berries so many times when I zoomed into a hot zone to drop nanos or drop links with the idea in my mind of zooming back out to a safe area and laying missle fire on the area once I had deliveed the goods.
By not having locks, the utility value of an LAV is very low given the expense is losing it to some idiot that is going to drive it directly into a tank as soon as he steals it from you. It's basically a one way ride if you want to drive your vehicle into a populated area and get out of it to help in any way.
So just give us an R2 selection to drop nanos if we have them on our suit, or another for drop links, (wouldn't it be cool if you could drive up and drop a repair tool or injector for some other player to use who is involved in the action? But that's a whole different idea)
Anyway, until we have locks, I have the cheapest vehicles I can build with militia everything and no change of really using them for good stuff, because I don't want to keep funding the guys who just like to drive them for fun. |

Hey, you can do alot of things from a space ship without getting out. Why not! A neuro link like in EVE pods as an explanation. |

I think maybe the capacity to lock the pilots seat.
And also the capacity to recall vehicles while passengers are inside (they just drop to the ground once the vehicle is gone) |

They said they plan on adding vehicle locks "eventually", which means they'll take their sweet time as ever. |

I wrote a post a few days ago that attempted to discuss the possible user interface in which we could lock our vehicles. But, it didn't go too far. The name is below with a link if you want to condense our ideas.
Phosis, that is a great idea too. I had been thinking it would be neat to be able to shoot drop links from under my dropship so I wouldn't risk getting out and getting it stolen. I had even thought that it would be cool to take a special piece of equipment that could handle like 5 drop links but only allow 5 spawns at each, instead of a mobile CRU.

Yes of course, but this suggestion has been posted since before the end of beta and there has been no response to Vehicle Locking suggestions by ccp. Therefore, I suggest an alternative. |
