1200wp? really do you think that 1200wp it seriously enough for ***** and giggles have made several alts and that amount of WP is not ****. that number is a joke not even enough to even get started on a proper path. maybe just 4 or 5 games which (playing very ****** by the by) got me out with only about 2k sp being active to 5k being afk ts a joke needs to be raised i believe to at least 25k Wp so that it would fall in line with the first milestone of the recruitment teir and at least get them some sp to get a decent weapon, drop suit . even if it is adv |

lol the funny part is i am drunk and i am mostly ranting. well i dont know how long you have been playing for but for me it was wa before the academy, but to be honest it would have been nice to have some sort of a fighting chance or at least to get use to the game. my little brother who did very well in academy only got 2 games in before being thrown to the dogs thats 5k sp next to nothing and even so how would you expect players to not want to quit after being killed over and over and over and over ( i know harden the **** up) but i really dont want to see the numbers diwndel (sp) my thing is i made a vehicle charater for fun and damm whats the point if you cant even get a ok fit before coming against a forge gun OHK it

As someone who created an alt character for the purpose of doing something for my corporation, I joined a Battle Academy match to gain some ISK to continue to skill the character out, just as a little extra to do while messing around for a bit.
I went 36/9 with starter gear and the only skills I had skilled into armor and shield upgrades, getting both to level 2. Which brought the base Militia Amarr suit up to 198/198. I felt bad (afterwards) for getting so many kills... most of the players didn't even know what they were doing. (Example: I spent five minutes following 10m behind a raspberry around on the battlefield before killing him and three others.)
I still feel 1,200 WP is a bit... underrated for battle academy. Hopefully this new objective based tutorial they're bringing out in 1.5 will be an improvement. |

tho when i made this char i halfaway afk through it ... snipe kill 2-3 guys afk for rest of match so it took max time to get out (farm isk /sp for the real battles but player retention is something ccp is working on and that we shall see somthing upcoming

You try going through the Academy when it was only something like 200WP? That was shocking. Blues dieing by redlining themselves. 2 Burning LAV's FULL of blues about to die cus they don't know about the repper. Me and one other the only guy fighting for the objective (most blues weren't even facing the right direction -_- ) I felt so old and tired after that match, I truly despaired for this game. |

Had a Corp mate (not this one) join us last month. He went 46/0 for his first and only Battle Academy match. Sort of depends on the crowd and their experience level.
However, 1200 is a little low for unskilled players while it is a waste of time for those with skills. |

The Battle Academy needs to be revamped or removed. What new players need is a corporation to live in. I hear many new capsuleers are directed to EVE University, for example.
With the new tutorial in 1.5, we should remove Battle Academy and add another objective for learning about corporations promoting joining one.
Otherwise, players are going to get turned off after an easy time in the academy only to be hit in the face by reality when they get out.
Or do something about prototype gear.
YES I TWISTED THIS TO A POST ABOUT TIERCIDE. Almost every major issue in the game that's been brought up and here I am, thinking: "hey, this would be so much less troublesome/the game would be so much more fun without tiers (and tears)!" |

Vets making alts and wreaking havoc on uninitiated newbs is not a healthy game building environment.
Putting newbs in some simple PVE modes to show hacking, blaster and railgun use, droplink use, respawning after clone failure and so on would help them understand a lot more than random FPS carnage in ambush mode. Heck, might be nice to have some skill, fitting and market training too.
Many games give some simple initial scenarios to have people use different controls, swap equipment, and so on. Having that in front of the whole MMO would probably be good start. Perhaps have the user join a PVE squad and get instruction from a PVE squad leader.
Going through the battle academy in skirmish mode after that might be more useful than simply dropping into it first thing. Have to admit I've paid no attention to what's coming in terms of NPE since I'm not very likely to see it. I just know it's been crappy for a quite a while. |

I fully agree that the Academy system is flawed, but there is an easy way to fix the issue.
Base the academy graduation on kills and not WP. Graduate them at 24 kills which is 1200 WP. You might even want to make it higher, say 100 kills. Once a person has gotten 100 kills in the Academy they are probably ready to get proto stomped.
Also, while in the Academy, don't save the KDR records. Start KDR after graduation.
Put in an option to skip the academy for those who want to get proto stomped right away.
Another Idea I had was to allow mentors in the Academy. Anyone with more than 1000 in game kills could queue up the battle academy as squad leader. I know you cant really require comms, but the squad leader could literally walk the noobs through the battle, explaining hacks, ranges, weapons, grenade use, objectives, the red line, pilot controls, stuff like that.
The mentor should get paid, but the KDR in the War Academy should stay there. Also they would only be able to equip starter fits or at most all basic gear.
With this kind of system, the 36/9 guy will graduate quickly while the 0/15 guy gets the additional time in a lower powered atmosphere that he or she needs before getting beaten viciously by proto's. This could really improve player retention in my opinion. |

Keeping our alts out of the academy with a really low WP limit is a really good idea, imho. If you are going 24/0 then you really shouldn't be in an academy at all.
I'd love to see some of the numbers that IWS gets to see, but I be a typical number of kills per match for real newbies is something like....
0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 2, 1, 2, 4, 0, 3, 5, 6
That is 15 academy matches there.
Personally I think the bigger problem is throwing them to the lions after graduation. |
