How would everyone feel about fully customizable suits? The idea I have in my head would be that every suit would have a base number of slots that a player can "activate", with that number increasing with skill level. The player could then choose to activate slots on their suits as they see fit.
Example: I currently have on my ADV Gal Scout 8 slots available to me (2 Weapon Slots, a Grenade Slot, an Equipment Slot, 2 High Slots, and 2 Low Slots), but I decide that I don't really use grenades all that much, so I deactivate that slot and choose to instead activate an additional Equipment Slot (for Active Scanner purposes). I have now lost the ability to use grenades, but have gained the ability to use the Active Scanner. Or I could choose to activate an additional Low Slot instead, giving me 2 Highs, and 3 Lows.
My idea would be to give the Frame Suits the highest amount of customization (Highest amount of available slots, as well as highest amount of corresponding CPU/PG), due to their lack of specified roles and inherent bonuses. This should give Frame Suits the ability mimic the Specialty Suits (Scouts, Logi's, etc.), but still give the Specialty Suits an edge with the inherent bonuses they receive, and give everyone the ability to create suits to their own specifications.
This idea would apply to Vehicles as well, giving everyone the ability to tweak their loadout to suit their own individual playstyle. |

Why the high price tag, if all suits are fully customizable? Why should I pay more for a Gal Scout with 4 Highs 1 Low, than I do for a Gal Scout with 1 High 4 Lows? What makes one worth more than the other? |

Because it's potentially game-breaking, thats why. Think about it, one particular issue I see is that Light and Heavy weapons are two different slots. Now picture any suit with a Forge gun, LR and SMG.
That sounds like something someone should pay through the nose for.
And going by your ideals, you can't restrict it due to "total customization"
Another scary thought is any Logi throwing down his equipment slots in favour of even more module slots and a side arm.
All I'm saying is that if it were to happen then make sure it cost a few million.
Perhaps increased cost per slot that's been changed. |

Restrictions would still apply. I'm talking about Full Customization with what's available for that particular Frame. So I wouldn't be able to toss an FG onto a Light Frame, or Scout Suit. As I understand it, the Slots available for weapons are 1 Primary Weapon, 1 Secondary Weapon, and 2 Grenade Slots for a total of 4 Slots. I wouldn't be able to change a Grenade Slot into a Weapon Slot, but I would be able to carry two different types of grenades. Or double up on one type.
I do understand your point about Logi's, but as I said, Specialty Suits would be less customizable. Restrictions would still apply based on Frame Size, Race, and Specialty. The total number of slots available on any suit is 18 (5 Highs, 5 Lows, 4 Equipment, 2 Weapons, 2 Grenades), but no suit will be able to use all of the slots. How many Slots a Suit starts with is still open for debate, but all suits would be able to gain a maximum of 5 extra slots by skilling into that Frame, or Specialty.
I'm advocating Full Customization within a frame work, not Total Customization. |

assuming the racial variants wont be as far as CCP takes the "customization of your weapon" (i use customization loosely in this case) I'd love to see new scopes, grips, stocks, barrels, muzzles/silencers, special ammunitions & etc..
but a GOD SUIT is unacceptable... these guys have been building something unique and great because its hardcore about it..
if CCP would even suggest that this game is moving towards a more "single suit" "single play style" "single standard" then they've lost 100% of my support
putting in a "god suit" (or whatever u guys call it) would take this game from the hardcore unfettering strategy fantastic (that i love it for and imo the purity specifically) and turn it into some kind of softcore anyti-bully campaign to give pansies a safe haven on the internet because they cant handle failure or an exciting challange once in awhile...
you're good... get better.. stop asking for things from CCP?
only speak to CCP when CCP asks you to.. you're wasiting all of our time by posting thoughtless requests like this.. (requests should be relavent to what CCP is doing not what you want to see them doing) get it? |

I'm not seeing how this could be considered a "GOD SUIT", or how it encourages (or out right imposes) a "single suit/playstyle/standard". There would still be Frame, Racial, and Specialty Variants, as well as the differing Base Stats and bonuses. Nor do I see how it would make the game "softcore". You're still going to higher skilled players with more slots and CPU/PG than lower skilled players, just as we do now, the only difference being is that you'll be able to choose which slots you want to use (as opposed to having them be preselected as they are now).
Take the Medium Frame Suit as an example. The Specialty Suits for the Medium Frame are Assault and Logistics; two completely different playstyles. As an unspecialized suit it receives no bonuses to either specialty, but the way it is configured makes it basically a weak version of an Assault Suit. But what if I wanted to play as a weak version of the Logi? If you have the ability to customize the slot layout of your suit then you can, though you would still receive no bonuses to your chosen Role until you've skilled into that Specialty. |

Wouldn't that defeat the need for different suit classes? There would be no need to have any specific roles (assault, logi, etc) because everyone would skill into custom and get all for one. Also, racial variants would be nothing more than appearance. |

that's one of the only kinds of "customizations" i would whole-heartedly support. as well as with HUD color and font size displays.. unfortunately some of us have less than perfect vision and being able to customize color patterns, relevant information on screen and size/placement would give this game a relatively new player-interface aspect to the table which i've seen done before in games like armored core.
also might attract more computer gamers.. recently been playing planet side 2 with a friend (who introduced me to it) and even though this game is so much better in my humble opinion, they do have a very nice streamlined operation and maybe a few aesthetic ques from them might make this game a more immersible experience.

There would still be Specialty Suits, as all suits would be fully customizable. Frame suits would have more customizability (i.e. more slots available) due to the lack of specific roles, thereby allowing the player to choose which role they play. Specialty Suits would have less slots to activate overall, and therefore be less customizable, but make up that with the Racial and Role Bonuses. Racial Variants of the suits would still have meaning, just as they do now, because of the variations in Base Stats. |

Again, no to both of these. I'm talking customization within a framework, not total customization where anything goes. Restrictions still apply based on Frame, size Specialty, and Race. You get to choose which slots are active on any given suit, but not what those slots are. Meaning that I can choose to activate/deactivate a High Slot, or a Low Slot, or a Grenade Slot, but I can't change a Grenade Slot, or Low Slot, or a High Slot into a Weapon Slot. Also, I can't change what type of weapons available for the suit. Light and Medium Frame Suits (and all Specialty Suits based on those Frames) cannot use Heavy Weapons, so you could not throw a Forge Gun onto a Scout. |

You're... an *******. Just a straight up douche. Elitist gamer turd. Games are supposed to be fun. His idea, although flawed, is already a fully implemented idea in EVE Online. They're called Tech 3(or Tier 3, depending on who you're talking to) ships, and they're frickin awesome.
It's been a while, but from what I remember, the way it works is that you skill all the way into a certain line of ships (in DUST it will obviously be dropsuits- I'm not going to hold any hands. Draw your own parallels.) Once you've skilled into the appropriate ships and secondary/supporting skills, you can begin to skill into specialized skills that allow you to take special blue prints (acquired through various, extremely difficult tasks) and manufacture PARTS of a certain type of spaceship. Each blueprint allows certain numbers of a certain type of slots, dIfferent PG and CPU stats, etc., creating an EXTREMELY versatile but skill intensive ship that can be used to not only fill any role or niche, but is so highly specialized for one particular purpose that a player can actually create their OWN ROLE or job in the game.
A truly emergent and totally immersive experience.
If you don't think that this is coming to DUST, you're not only wrong, but you're playing the wrong game. CCP is all about giving players the tools to create their own opportunities, and shape their own universe. Too many people don't understand that. It's why I want to work for them when my degree is finished, once I get out of the Marine Corps. >=)
-Sincerely,
Irish

If you're referring to Damage Mods, and seems like you are, then I would counter by stating that there are already 2 suits I think of in the game that can stack Damage Mods that high. The Cal Assault, and the Cal Logi, with 4 Highs and 5 Highs respectively. So if this proposal would lead to CCP having to nerf damage in order to compensate, then I would say that a weapons nerf is already in order. As it stands, if someone is stacking Damage Mods then the only logical counter is to stack HP Mods (Shield Extenders, or Armor Plates). The balance to what you're talking about is already built into the game, and I don't see this idea affecting it too much, if it all. |
