I request that the reload time be reduced to 2.7 seconds for the former, and 2.25 seconds for the latter. This would help to strengthen them as a back up weapon, in addition to making them feel more 'side-army' (a super scientific description, but I feel that quick reload is a common trait of sidearms).
I think this is a cool idea.
Sidarms are disadvantaged in terms of range or damage output (which is how they are supposed to be). They can be lethal in the right hands, especially at proto level, but proto light weapons still have the upper hand in my experience. I 10% reduction to reload time seems very reasonable to me.
I'm pretty sure it wouldn't make very much of difference to a large amount of players who only use sidearms as a last resort, but to those that run sidearms as primary weapons, or those that skill into upper level sidearms it would sweeten the pot a bit which would be nice. Maybe the reduction should be based on the skill level of the sidearm, with a 5% reduction to ADV sidearms and another 5% reduction to PRO. |

Dominus Fatali wrote: Yeah, this could be a feasible option, as the Militia to Standard (for Submachine Guns) is 3.5 to 3 seconds. However, this might diminish the usefulness of the Reload skill for the given weapon.
I for one would love this, as the only weapon that I have skillpoints in is SMG.
True, but the reduction being a straight 10% or a staggered 5% at ADV, and another 5% at PRO in both cases would diminish the usefullness of the rapid reload skill.
However, that being said the rapid reload would still give you that extra edge in intense combat, and we are only talking additional tenths of seconds here....
As a pistol user for primary and secondary, I would definitely like as much rapid reload as I can get, and an extra 10% I don't feel is too much given the disadvantages of sidearms in general.
Surely others must have an opinion and it's not just two sidearm specialists talking to eachother.....?

Light weapons should definitely beat sidearms in a straight up fight, all things being equal. But reloading should be how sidearms compete with light weapons. Light has accuracy, which means more applied DPs. Sidearms can reload and fire faster, thus their DPs is through sheer volume. I think the dispersion is fine where it is at currently. Light weapons have the damage and range advantage currently, and it takes a large amount of SP and Skill Points to be an effective sidearm specialist.
Yeah, I agree with this. Light weapons are already superior to sidearms in many ways, I don't think additional handicaps are needed to keep sidearms below light weapons in terms of battlefield usefulness and flexibility. A slight reduction in reload time will not tip the balance such that sidearms = light weapons in term of effectiveness. Sidearms will still be handicapped in terms of range and DPS when it comes to facing off against a light weapon of the same tier.
