This is for those people with an odd name, surname or both where people just can't seem to get it right whether by accident or on purpose. I'd like to know how you guys say your name should be said as.
(Note: I usually just let it slide when people state it incorrectly seeing as how I don't expect people to understand Japanese sounds or that this name itself is nippon.)
And with that:
Kaminoikari (Kah-me-no-e-car-i). In this instance, the car-i sounds like ka-dee, so (kah-me-no-e-ka-de.) To break it down even more, here is the original romanji; "Kami no ikari" or in the original language: pÇîtÑPpü«µÇÆpéèpÇì. This translated directly means "Wrath of God" or "the wrath of God". I'll break it down a bit further if you've read this far, lel.
tÑP - Kami (God, Gods, deity, omniscient being) pü« - no (a particle, or in this case "of") µÇÆpéè - ikari (anger, hatred; wrath)
Due to the way Japanese grammar goes, it would sound more like God of wrath, but that is not the case. I digress. The majority of people read my name as:
Kaminoikari (kamino-e-car-e), Kamino (kah-me-no) or just plain Kami (cam-me). Hardly has anyone called me Kami (Kah-me), or even pronounced my entire name properly. Now, I'm not harping on anyone, I just find it interesting, which Is why I'd like to know how you, those with a weird portion of name, originally pronounced yourself. Hell, even if your name isn't odd, I'm sure some people have pronounced it differently so I'm curious as to how YOU, the creator intended youself to be called. |

I figured that wasn't the intention, I just had to make the joke though, hah.

I'm not sure what the purpose of this thread is. o_O But oh well. Hopefully we'll get some funny ones.
To establish how people intended for their aliases to be said.
Quote:Rolled rage
I find it funny when people misread it as roid rage
I wouldn't doubt people would mispronounce it, the l could have been a capital i. |

Aero Yassavi wrote:True Adamance wrote:There are a couple of name I wish to clear up since most players in this game will get them wrong.
True Adamance- True A-day-mens-suh
Aero Yassavi- A-E-ro Yass-ay-vi
Evicer- Eeeey-Voyy-cer
Don't listen to this fool! My name is pronounced Aero, as in a bow and arrow, Yas-sa-vI. Most common mispronunciation is Ya-sav-E, which is wrong.
Mwahahah, Yasavvy. You're so savvy. You will be referred to as Arrow yah-savvy from this moment on!
Curse the 5 quote limit! Why must that exist? |

Well.. I mean, you could have just said "i-ron wolf say-burr", then again everyone should know Iron is a single syllable word.

Rogatien Merc wrote:Row-gay-shin. Preferably with a southern drawl Though the actual French pronunciation is, I am told, pronounced Ro-gah-tee-ah with that barely-there 'n' thing the French do. Half the people I know say "Row gah teen" and I just tell people "Rogue or Merc"
Personally I would've said it as "Row-ga-shin" with how the English language is and all that nice grammatical stuff. |

I-Shayz-I wrote:sh-ay-z (ay as in gray...or grey, one sylable)
I don't get how people can't say this correctly. It's pronounced exactly as you see it.
What it is NOT: shay-zee shaz **** shay eye-dash-shayz-dash-eye
Edit: I can't believe it blocked shi.z
Most people always assume the shortest word is 4 letters long when reading a name (alias in this case), so when they see something like Shayz they'll usually assume the first two; shay-z or shaz/shaaz. **** and shay are usually occurrences when a person's brain has adapted to shortening names/words, even if they're already short. When someone actually SAYS eye-dash-shayz-dash-eye I think they'd be doing it for ***** and giggles. I don't know of anyone who'd pronounce that literally.
Vesperz wrote:VES-PURZJust so we're clear, I've lost count on how many people have called me VESPEREZ. SERIOUSLY?
The brain working to make the reading of your name as quick/short as possible. :P I would's assumed vespers anyways (Using the actual word in this case, heh.) |
