First off, I usually play a logi or a scout on the field so I don't usually use a AR (I seriously think it gets in the way of playing my role so I usually use SMG)
I decided to get a fistful of Burst's because I wanted to get a feel for them. After all the Min Combat Rifle is supposed to resemble its style so I gave it a shot. (And I got a hell of a lot of discouragement from my regular team - even a PC user which I thought was ironic)
I'm convinced that there is a good way to use it but I have not found it yet. The scope it brilliant and shooting down sights is very satisfying. The problem is that I have not found the optimal conditions for its use. Every time I use the scope and fire at a more distant target I get the impression that the GLU would do far better in that situation (and it has the same sights too) Then when the enemy get close it makes me wish I had a GEK to finish them off more quickly. I will give it its due, its very economical with its ammunition and the obviously reduced kick (from firing constantly in the controlled fashion that it does) makes it very easy for every round to land on target. I've also noticed the way the target reticle changes with movement and crouching. It might just me though, as I tend to use other weapons. So with all this in mind the kind of situation it seems to favour is firefights slightly outside the optimal standard AR range but not a marksman weapon. Tricky
As I see it then, its an assault rifle that rewards the more patient player and not the kind that sprays bullets everywhere. I think its placement is unfortunate in its current state as it shares the same skill level as the Tactical variant - So I understand why that might be favoured (though not as much as Breach/Standard) I don't really want this to be about the maths but obviously the damage is enhanced far less with modifiers compared to the slower, high output rifles
That said I am determined to try to master it. Perhaps with a rethink to no's of Dam mods I'm currently using.. |

I say this all the time; they should base the new racial variant on the original seven shot, low damage burst. That was a gun with a niche. |

I like the Burst AR, it places a good number of rounds on target and when you don't need to strafe madly around to avoid being TKOed you can generally engage opponents at about 2x the range of a typical AR. My belief is that it needs to have damage closer to the TAC AR's damage output , maybe 10 more damage per round at each level to make it a truly viable weapon rather than one that requires a good deal of healing while in CQC. It is truly weak at CQC and should be used at range for taking out people at about 75-150m away.
Also to be noted, when moving in ADS the scope will often disappear and reappear most notably while moving on uneven surfaces. This is a BUG and I expect if someone in the Devs sees this it may get fixed. |

I use the burst but its more of a kill assist weapon needs more shots per burst or more damage |

never got hold of a burst ar yet but the way it functions it sounds like its suppose to be better than a tac in cqc but be more effective than a std ar at range. |

I literally just finished a match 11/2 and I had my CEO with me. He was in the chat with me when the others were criticising the burst's performance. He looked on as I took out 3 reds one right after the other and still have ammo in the clip, not one round wasted, then reload and take out another wave. His comment:
"Duuuude! when the Combat rifle comes out you gonna seriously own ass" Yes, the output of damage overall is low and I get a lot of kill assists (9 I believe that time) but it also performs very well when the enemy is ducking and diving out of cover as you do more damage in the short window when they're moving through (3 guy's actually ran from me when I started firing, never had that happen to me outside of my Heavy alt)
I'd say, if your not too fussy about K/DR then this is a fair choice of weapon and one I don't mind having on my logi. Can't wait for CCP to roll out my races own ;) |

I played with the proto burst a while ago and it felt like a marshmallow gun. Especially when compared to the Duvolle. |

This gun is good for logis I found due to it's ability to shoot fast at any distance and do it's intended damage, say your backing a heavy and you don't just want to sit and heal him because your points have capped for healing, so now you try to shoot an enemy at mid range but it's a hard shot with the heavy in front of you, so with the burst you can use it's sights to get that precise shot without hitting the heavy, saving you ammo and getting you a kill. Then there is it's long range effectiveness, when you are fighting a sniper from long medium range it comes in handy to use that scope to line up a head shot and pop those three rounds in him, the first two kill him the third finishes him. Heavy's hate this rifle, it rips through them like a hot knife through butter from the closer range, mostly because you have the speed advantage combined with the same high-speed firing system, so essentially you can out DPS him this way, or from long range you can hit him where he can't hit you. The only downside is an all on assault if you are making an assault for someone this riffle tends to get you killed first because of its split second firing gap, that gap is the time it takes for someone to put a final bullet in you. but other than that I see this weapon as an all go for a logi. |
