I read through the timeline history and it's quite interesting. Read through several FAQ thread links, after the official FAQ on the site. I read up on other site info and more, but I'd like to just ask about the Factions and Corporations, as everything else I'm pretty much able to wrap my head around to some degree or go back and get the info I need. On a side note, I would enjoy cut-scenes with all the lore.
It's very important to me to be part of a faction and corporation that I identify with or like overall more so than the others. It's not of interest to me in which is most popular etc or whatever, but I do have a few concerns.
I, right now, am seeing things as there being several player created Corporations. Now, I get that I can't change my corporation, which is fine as I do like mine the best even though I chose it before researching any of them.
The corporations info told me that if I left my current corporation I'd be placed in an NPC corporation. I started in one, however and have to wonder is there any way I can choose which corporation I join or will it always place randomly? Do I need to request an invite and wait? So that would mean immediate acceptance into any NPC corporation, but not player, but rather based on the CEO's wishes, right?
Also, they state Angel Cartel is the largest, but after looking at the list and seeing the agents in each, they aren't anymore. Is there no player cap? Does this ultimately lead to unfair advantages or do battles always even the participants per side?
I didn't even know all of what was going on completely. I just survived and learned how not to die, but aside from that it was a big world with teammates I couldn't communicate with and utter chaos (that I loved, I just didn't know what was all occurring and what kind of battle it was, as I was under the impression there are different types like in CoD for example [capture the flag/domination/kill confirmed] for that game)
Basically- what's going on with Corporations right now? Are the 8 listed here http://dust514.com/universe/corporations/ now not even as powerful now that player corporations are around or do multiple allied corporations fall under umbrellas of bigger corporations?
Is that basically how player corporations work?
I know this was a bit messy. I hope not too messy, but it's just not making sense to me, the whole thing and why when I check to see stats of corporations and go to mine, it says No Agents, but I'm in Ostrakon Agency. I don't get that. Can't I see a list of who's in and our stats in comparison?
And once you leave can you rejoin? It is an NPC corporation after all. Can I just hop back in?
Are any of the 8 mentioned in the site still around. I just looked up how to get in Arkombine, which was my interest, and found a thread saying it's gone.
I dont want to jump into another corporation right away, but I'd like to know how it works, and where I can see decent stats and how these rankings really work.
Also I did well in an NPC corporation in my only battle. Now wondering if a player based one might do worse (if the npc fights better in most cases) |

First off here some sort of a lore cut sence to keep you going! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZPCiqBLPM8 Take in mind though that a lot has happened in 10 years of game play aswell as this. for more general info go to EveOpdia
You don't get to chose the one that you are placed in when you leave your corp, it automatically joins you to a random corp linked with your race, unless you are on eve and it automatically joins you with the corp you started that character with. Corps like the Angle Cartel and Blood Raiders are pirate corporations, which i'm unsure if you can join in either Eve or Dust. But im pretty new to the game so, never say never! Theres more to Corporation when it comes to the Eve side of the game to be honest, but have look for your self to get a grasp of the comings and goings of these NPC Corporations.
Oh and before i forget, the agent thing is to do with Eve, not Dust. they act as mission vendors for that game. At the moment the Empires and NPC corps don't like us because of the whole immortal solider thing from what i understand so they don't like have to many direct links with us as Mercenaries, but from what i understand about the Eve universe that could change very soon.
Hoped this helped somewhat, i will find more lore if you need. just send me a message!

There are several NPC corporations though the 8 listed are known to give out contracts. I don't recall seeing corporations named after them.
If you were to leave your corp, you are randomly placed in a NPC corporation.
Player controlled corporation member limit is increased as the CEO specs into the corporation skillbook. The higher the skill the higher limit amount of members that can be recruited. |

As for the battles you have in DUST 514 at the moment, instant battles (now known as Public Contracts) have no effect on the universe and the contract providers (NPC corps) fill their teams randomly so your corp affiliation makes no difference.
In Faction Warfare you can choose which Race you wish to fight for. This could be the race you chose when you created your character, or one you have since come to like or whatever. you can even fight for all races, being put in a team for a random faction (of the 4 - Amarr, Minmatar, Gallente, Caldari).
In New Eden Gallente fight Caldari, and Minmatar fight Amarr, with the Gallente allied with Minmatar and Caldari allied with Amarr. In EVE Online if you want to participate in Faction Warfare you HAVE to pick a single faction to fight for and you gain standings with the faction you choose. If you are in an alliance where certain corps are fighting for different factions this will effect your ability to fight for your desired faction and prevent you from entering FW (one of the main options then is to get the problematic corps removed from the alliance whether temporarily or permanently). My alliance had to remove a corp temporarily a few months back as they had members with bad Faction standings stopping our pilots from entering faction warfare for Gallente.
NPC corps are unlimited in size but have no real use in DUST 514 TBH. In EVE they are important to some extent and have set tax rates of 11%, which encourages new players to join player controlled corps instead if they want lower tax rates. In DUST 514 all the NPC corps are tax free.
From looking at your character here it seems you have left your corp and moved back into an NPC corp, but I'll just restate for the record that when you create a character you go into a random NPC based on your Race and Bloodline and when you leave a player owned corp you will be randomly placed again. I repeat - there is currently no benefit to being in an NPC corp other than 0% tax. |
