I need a crowd control weapon...Currently the only true crowd control weapons we have, excluding grenades, are Mass Drivers and Laser Rifles. Not to versed in either weapon, I'm looking for the community's word here.
Which is a better CC weapon to you, Laser Rifles or Mass Drivers? Why? |

If you're with a squad, mass driver, if not, laser rifle.
Depending on the suits & strategy you use, either could work though.
Mass driver used to be great for kills, but now it's the king of assists. Especially the assault variants.
The laser is heavy on CPU use, whereas the MD uses PG.
Rounds from the mass driver can knock enemies' aim, making it great for squad vs squad combat, but the laser really sh*ts people up. The noise & light is very distracting, and it's very disheartening for AR users because the laser's optimum range is just beyond their own. |

Although i use Laser pretty often i would not call it crowd control, you need to be in a good position for it to work efficiently for crowd control, and when you need crowd control its generally in at "Crowded" area, so laser rifle is not great in tight spots but more of a out in the open type deal.
So i would say inside buildings mass driver, outside in the open laser rifle. |

As an AR user. I hate them both. Because they kick my a**. Then again, everything does.
(I'm not very good btw):)
I would say the mass driver because you don't need line of sight and can damage multiple targets.
But the laser is bada** in its own right. Long range open terrain.
Oh yeah, and I really hate the sound of both. |

Both have an intimidation factor.
The Mass Driver causes blobs to break up due to the explosions it produces causing players to panic.
The Laser Rifle causes players to break up and try to flee for cover because they know that if caught in the open, the LR will cut them down quickly.
While I'm an Amarr loyalist and would always chose the LR, I'd have to say that as a crowd control weapon, the Mass Driver is likely your best bet.
If players do manage to get behind cover, you can still damage them with your splash from the MD. If they get behind cover when you are wielding the LR, while you just kind of stop firing and wait for them to pop out again and then you must wait for the LR's damage to spool up as well. |

LR is much more situational and not "crowd control". Heat also limits the number of people you can hit, and damage dropoff at closer ranges makes it sort of like an electric fence... sure the dog gets shocked when he runs through... but then he's through...
MD can act as a brick wall when used to cover a chokepoint. Ain't **** gettin' through. |

Great points made. I would also add that LR's really require a deep SP investment to get the most out of them, and work best with Amarr assault suits. If you don't have points in Amarr Assault, you will see a much larger benefit, much more quickly with the MD. It also is the superior weapon for breaking up crowds because it's less situational and will hurt people behind cover with splash. |
