A number of sams can be guided on to surface targets. Rim-8 Talos, Sm-2 standard, RBS-70, Starstreak, ect..
IR seeker of javelin anti-tank missile and stinger manpad are similar enough a software change could allow them to lock on the opposite target. Not that a stinger would do much to a tank or a javelin could fly fat enough to catch a jet.
"regaurdless of how much armor you have a sniper bullet to the head kills you." If this statement was true we could snipe the driver of a tank since the armour won't stop the round.
The Back ground description for heavy suit says "Every vital area of the wearer is protected y 25mm composite ceramic shell or high tensile steel plates". Armour rhae(rolled homologous armour equivalent) for modern triple hardness steel is 1.8 vs conetic impact, composite ceramic systems are higher then steel in armour as well. Mild steel is tated as .8. So, the armour of a heavy suit is equal roughly to 56.25mm of mild steel or 45mm rhae. A Barrett M82 would not be able to penetrate to cause any damage at all, .50bmg rounds is rated to penetrate 19mm rhae, less then 1/2 needed not even enough for thickness of mild steel. Since the suit also has a shields and the alloys are most likely better then current a modern ,50cal hmg could pit belts worth of ammo into a heavies head with no affect. I would also point out this amount of armour is higher then many areas of WWII tiger tank and t-55 still in use, higher then some areas of M-1 Abrams for that matter(actual amount is classified so based on 3rd party estimates).
There is also a real life incident of a soldier in Afghanistan surviving a head injury from a 14.5mm (larger then .50cal bmg) and living. So even in real life a head shot is not always fatal, just almost always. |

That is why the ar uses plasma, to go through all that armour. A modern assault rifle may out range plasma weapons but would just chip the paint of our suits. Real life research into plasma weapons was done and stopped due to the short range plasma has. CCP has done a pretty good job at making game play accurate for the background. |

Oh, guided grenades do now exist. Textron's Battle Hawk is being developed now. A 40mm grenade attached to a 5ib drone that circles for up to 30min looking for the target once launched from spring loaded tube by soldier. Swap the tv/gps sensors for the ones from the sensor fused munition cluster bomb submunitions and it would act just like the av grenades we have in game. Except it will keep circling for 30 min. trying to get a lock instead of falling to the ground.
AV grenades have been used since WWI, U.S. doesn't use them anymore to my knowledge but France, Russia, and other countries do. |
