OTOH, I appreciate small fixes ... they accrue over the years and lead to er.... solid gameplay. patch notes are at the top of General forum. At least they are doing **** instead of letting it die really quickly :o Hey, all snarkiness aside, i'm rooting for CCP. It's a love hate relationship. i look at the game today and say "yeh, way cooler than 6 months ago" and 200% better than Uprising 1.0. Each small feature they add is something else that makes the game better. Squad finder and improved corp mechanics will do a lot for NPE. Vehicle balance, new weapons and racial suits ARE coming. It just takes a while.
The thing is, we're in a period of people who had high expectations from CBT leaving due to boredom and burnout and overstrained patience. There is a finite pool of bittervets though, and once that exodus is complete there is really nowhere to go but up for player numbers. Dust is still the most appealing "hmmm, let me search for Free on PSN" game and I think the slow trickle of new players will ultimately result in continual slow and steady growth of the playerbase built on people who don't have grand EvE link expectations and will judge the game for what it is rather than what was promised.
These aren't the bleeding edge hardcore FPS crowd, they aren't the MAG community yearning for perfection in team-based gameplay and balance, and they won't come into the game with a bitter taste in their mouth from months and months of cyclic horribad bugs or nostalgia for Chromosome.
We shall call these players "noobs" but it is they who will carry Dust into the next two years along with a core of hardcore fans. They will fill the pub matches and learn about New Eden and progress into FW and build their own castles of Sand and rage against the walls of the STB empire. As bug fixes continue, the game is more solid, and content is added the appeal slowly but steadily grows and all of a sudden it's 2015 and you don't even recognize the political landscape because a guy who started in Dec 2013 is all of a sudden a 25mil SP killing machine who built a corp you never heard of that rules a region...
That's why the game will live on. CCP can afford the dev costs and I think they are settling in and see the light at the end of the tunnel, though it is a really long tunnel. We CBTers have served our purpose, and maybe one day some will return to the game. |
