So I took the time send all these from QG facebook wall.
Update 16 : 10/5 7:18 pm
Weston was doing well for about 36 hours. He had been switched successfully from an oscillator to a ventilator. His morphine drip was reduced an he began to move again. His counts were also holding steady. This morning his labs were not the best. He had to have yet another transfusion. His 14th to be exact. They began to change his anti-biotic. They want to try an give him more nutrition, but are unable to because his kidneys are still not working properly an the amount of anti-biotic is keeping the doctors hands bound because of his fluid limit.
Now I am no man of false hope I fully understand Weston is sick. However I feel that I must share with you the few moments of joy that I share with Mandy an Weston in the days that we spend together.
Today Weston was moving an trying to open his eyes. He was fighting his battle an I could see it as I stared down at him. Every move he made you could see his tenacity. He actually managed to breath over the ventilator a few times today. Every beep that machine made was like a surge of energy for Mandy and I. A sign of hope way off in the distance.
Mandy an I were blessed with the support of are cousins today. They stood by us these last 2 days giving us support through love an comedy. You guys kept us focused on the good things. An we thank you for being here.
A women came to Mandy an I at the hospital the other day. She offered words of encouragement. she handed Mandy and I a Guardian angel medal an a prayer. Mandy an I have been praying to Weston's guardian angel now every day and we will continue every day for as long as we both live. Wes, you are a beacon of light an hope for all of us.
The war is far from won, But today even with the transfusion, and changes made to antibiotics, it was a good day. Wes every day you fight to be with us is a good day an I will never take that for granted. Thank you for being in my life. |

Update 17: Weston opened one eye today! He looked over at Mandy an I.
I was lost for words. Mandy cried an spoke to him softly. She about crushed my hand from squeezing it. I was over-whelmed with pride. Wes an I shared only a brief gaze together. It was worth it. Every moment spent by his bed every time i startled myself awake to check on him from the metal chair i sit in next to his bed. Just to get that moment between us. A moment where he knew I was here for him. I sent a picture to my brothers an mother one of them can post it my phone is not smart enough!
Yesterday the doctors for a second time failed a procedure known as a spinal tap. It consist of them inserting a needle into the spine an drawing a fluid they can test for a infection. They intend to send my son to a radiology department to use equipment to guide the pick line hopefully tomorrow. All in all he is doing good today. Urine output is about the same so he is still able to keep the dangerous levels in his blood low. They are again changing his nutrients to increase the amount they can give him an optimize the nutrients. It was nice today for Mandy an I to spend some alone time with him an actually have him move an react to are voices. He is strong very strong. His ability to give us so much joy is amazing.
Weston Good job today Mommy an Daddy love you so much!
I have been flooded with text messages emails an letters of love from all of you. I again Thank you all so much for everything. I have to draw attention to something that I have of pride in. The family of gamers that i play online with have gone above an beyond to support me. They view me as family friend an even in game enemy. Here is a thread of all of them showing support. A brief insight to my hidden world of online gaming. https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=113807 Here is a link to all the people that know I play video games an don't understand why I say its something they have to experience to understand. |

Update 18 : 1-0/8 4:23 p.m.
So today Mandy and I spoke to a swarm of different specialist. Ne o-ontology, Hematology, Ne-phrenology an a few others. Each had many different things they wanted to discuss.
We woke to a call from the hospital about Wes. He was once again bleeding, this time in his lungs. They gave him another transfusion of plasma. Taking his total number of blood product transfusions to 15.
Then they used suction to remove the secretion and blood from his lungs. They x-rayed to search for bleeding an noticed his breathing tube had migrated south. So they re-adjusted. After hours of deliberation as to the cause of the bleeding they decided that it is possible that the tube irritated the trachea causing bleeding or that the tube was rubbing the wall of his lung causing bleeding. Just to be certain they sent the Hematology team to check him.
The Ne-phrenology team was much less supportive. They gave us detailed information on the damages Wes sustained. As of now they are confident in assuming little baby Wes only has about 10 percent of normal kidney function. A very low number. His Keratin levels, which are an indication of kidney function for his age an weight should be about (.02). They are currently staying steady at a whooping (6.4) that is a huge difference an not in the good way. Now the reality is that Wes has a chance of a full recovery. It may take weeks, months or even longer: But there is a chance of recovery.
The fact that Weston is producing urine is a good thing. He is still keeping dangerous levels under control. So the kidney doctors are very optimistic that he is trying to recover. So keep him in your prayers he stills need them! Every day is a battle an Weston is undefeated so far. |

Update 20 : its 12:25 a.m October 10th 2013. Since September 25th I have lived in a bubble. A bubble that I never want anyone to ever have to experience.
I have met so many great people an have such a supportive family an collective of friends. Still I find myself sitting here in the wee hours of the morning trying to keep my composure. I have always claimed to be a strong independent person. Even moved away from everything just to prove I could do it on my own. I did what I told everyone I was going to do. I proved to myself that I had the strength, the intelligence an the courage to take on the world by myself an conquer the challenges that would be set before me. I planned, an trained myself for these tasks. Even after I met Mandy I adapted to care for her, to protect her, to love her. An as pattern is proven I again adapt and endure to care, love, an protect my son.
I never imagined that I would have to endure the current events even in my wildest nightmares. I never planned on being so helpless. I never thought I would be so taxed an deprived that I would rely on everyone around me to keep me strong. I have always made attempts to be the lone soldier. The calm amongst the storm. Especially for Mandy. yesterday was a long day. Weston had to have yet again 2 more transfusions, his numbers did not improve an once the sun comes up I am to meet with a collective of doctors to talk about my sons options.
I am tired. I am sad. I am terrified. I am doing everything I can to save face in front of Mandy. I fear her to fragile to see me in a weakened state. I did not even know how hurt I truly am until today. Many times I have choked back tears to shine strong for Weston an Mandy. So many times I walk outside into the cold air just to try an numb the feelings I have or to confuse the senses into feeling the cold instead of the sadness.
Weston you are so pure an innocent. so defenseless to this world. So wonderful yet so sick. I am praying that as I sit here an pour my heart out, as I show how sad I am, as I beg for God's compassion to save you: to heal you: to give me strength That he hears me.
So many of you offer encouragement an hope. I have not lost it. I am just so desperate to show my humanity without the fear of worrying my wife that I choose to do it here. Mandy as we all know barely ever goes online or uses anything electronic. So I don't intend for her to read this. She knows I love her so much an I am going to be there for her an our Son. I am just vexed. I hate this feeling that I have. This pit in my stomach the pain in my chest the fear I see in my eyes when I stare at myself in the mirror.
This nightmare that I am living is real. An as a man I must endure. I ask for God's forgiveness in my moment of weakness. I ask for the love of my wife an son to forgive me for any in-abilities I have shown. I am trying. I am trying so very hard to be there for you. To stand against the tide as it belches out these tragedies on are family.
I will wear my armor proud as I stand before you. Weston an Mandy I will be your man of steel. I will love you forever an always. I am so sorry for the challenges we must endure, but we must endure.
Angel of God my guardian dear To whom his love commits me here Ever this day or night Be at my side To light and guard To rule an guide Amen |
