so i've recently picked up my guitar and began trying to teach myself. note, i'm not a noob at music as i play 12 other instruments quite well, but the guitar feels...different. a good kind of different. the only problem is, the beginning steps and learning the basics is SO BORING, that i often quit playing out of sheer boredom. today, i played for about 4 hours, mainly practicing switching between the D chord and other chords, which is my biggest problem, and practicing the song "free fallin". so, to those of you who are pro at guitar, what tips can you give a newb like me? |

Well, looks to me that you're playing rhythm guitar, which does get boring. Try learning some lead guitar. Furthermore, just improvise. Improvisation is something that allows you to express yourself on the guitar, which will allow you to not be bored. Also, keep chipping away at the basics; don't just jump into it. Learn skills one at a time and apply them to your playing. Learn the pentatonic scale and the 7 modes on the guitar. Start varying when playing around. Use your chords and build up from that. Etc etc etc.
TL;DR: Learn a little at a time, improvise, solo and lead, improvise. |
