I'm curious, if I stack them and I'm sniping, will people see my name if they look at me? An If I pass by someone quickly, do I not appear on the map? Just need to know if it is worth it for shotgunning because that's what I usually run. |

Don't think it would be too valuable sniping, but for everything else dampeners are almost as valuable as HP in 1.4 (perhaps even more valuable). |

If you are dampened enough, they need to loo DIRECTLY at you to, tag you! But truth be told, if they are close enough to tag, they will see you without it, if you wanna use EWAR when sniping, put on prescision enhamcers, makes it easier for you to get a bead on targets! |

One of the many valuable titbits of information that would be very useful to get dev confirmation on in a fully fleshed out scanning dev blog.
As far as I'm aware scanning mods do not affect line of sight detection at all but this has never been confirmed or denied by CCP. |

It was tested on the forums by players, the tag starts off transparent and gets stronger the closer to the reticule they are! Enhancers make them more solid (noticable) further away from reticule!
I think! Gimme a sec! |

Depends what suit your running, assault or logi has a 50db scout has 45 Pd level 5 brings a medium suit to 45 passively My racial scout plus pd 5 brings my base signature to 30 because of the 25% scout bonus an the 10% pd passive bonus. A med 4 low frame can beat 15 db . If you figure out the math an compare it to the scanner you should be ok, an yes it's almost mandatory lately especially with 1.5 bringing scanning points, everyone will probably run adv an proto scans since they stay lit the longest. 28 db a scout shotguner like myself I can beat the proto scanner an do quit well being sneaky I suggest you invest to lv 5 in pd since the games gonna change an you ll need it |

I'm talking about combat. If I flank 8 or so people, will I be able to run around not being seen on their radar, and will they have to aim/look directly at me to see my health/name? |

I run a dampened logistics and people run past me all the time. Unless someone is looking right at me or I start shooting them they usually don't act like they see me. If my intent is to capture some point I'll let people run right on by. There must be a fair number that primarily rely on the TACNET and to them I'm just a ghost.
It doesn't take much to not appear on passive. |

It used to be that if you are dampened with SR, your Chevron would not show up unless somone was looking square at you. |

Well, I was wondering to run an enhanced dampener and an enhanced kin cat for a Caldari Assault Shotgun/Nova Knives fitting. It's a really run fit, so I was wondering if the 20% less profile is worth it. |

I personally smile every time I see " Scan attempt prevented" On my screen. Means that sp I spent getting to enhanced level and past it actually do something. |

With a scan profile of 50 dB for the medium suit, level 3 profile dampening (-6%) and an advanced profile dampener (-20%) you'll end up at a scan profile of 37.6 dB, which is higher than the scan resolution of all advanced scanners (36 dB). Since just about anyone with a scanner has an advanced scanner you won't be able to hide from almost anyone.
If you upgraded to a complex dampener you'd be able to hide from quite a few scanners though. On the other hand, post 1.5 I'd expect many people to upgrade to complex scanners and then you're out of luck again. Right now scanning is quite simply more powerful than dampening. |

How many times do I have to post this. I don't I've a **** about active scanners. If I'm using it for combat how effective will it be. Is it that hard to understand? Stop saying "active scanner" or "you have been scanned." I honestly don't care about that. I want to know it it's worth it to replace a kin cat with an advanced dampener to save PG, and also of course if it's worth it. |

I'm at my computer with my spreadsheet so here's the breakdown comparing passive only. You mentioned a 29 dB profile earlier so this is what I think it takes to detect you passively.
A Scout or Logistics with Precision Enhancement 3 and 3 x Advanced Precision Enhancers.
A Scout or Logistics with PE 5 and 2 x Complex Precision Enhancers.
All other Medium Frame and Heavies require PE 5 and 3 x Complex to detect you.
The best passive scan out there with no modules is a light frame with PE 5 for 40.5 dB. |

And when you say detect, do you mean like if I fire it won't show the location I am at? Or like it won't show me on their radar even if I'm like 20m away? |
