The biggest disappointment for me with 1.5 is the NPE sounds underwhelming. I'm glad they are focusing on "doing" instead of "telling," but there should be a combat scenario that's scripted and has you hack objectives, call in a tank, switch weapons at the depot, remote-repair something, drop a nanohive and an uplink, fire turrets, launch an orbital bombardment, introduce the controls etc. It should give new players a "tour" of the game's features while introducing the mechanics.
Ideally there would be a story pushing you through the tutorial. CCP should play the first Halo, and the original Portal to get inspiration for how do do this. Both games did a great job with introducing the player to new concepts. |

SOURCE Unfortunately the Nova Knife fixes also got pushed back from 1.5 It sounds to me like this may also explain the delays with the new weapons. Perhaps some of the optimizations they did caused major problems that couldn't be resolved before the deadline. It also could explain why they won't confirm them in 1.6 (or CCP could just be playing it cautiously). |

One thing to keep in mind is the more low level optimizations and hacking CCP does to get DUST to perform well on the PS3, the harder it will be to port the code to other platforms. |

They may be developing a PS4 version in tandem with the PS3 version, in which case it would make sense to share as much of the code base as possible between the two.

Zene Ren wrote:simply no architecture of PS3 and PS4 are completly diffrent i'm pretty sure they can't make the code that will work on both, based after reading opinions of game developers and some other source material about the two. i even doubt they can use any assets from PS3 version for PS4 I'd be interested to read up on this if you have any links. I realize the architecture is different, but if the game engine supports both platforms, then much of the code should be reusable. Low level optimizations won't be however. |

Low level optimizations won't be however. about the PS3 specs you can easly wiki them for PS 4 aswell, about the developers you can find some of things i've mentioned on gamasutra site for instance http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/191007/inside_the_playstation_4_with_mark_.php?print=1architecture and code diffrence for PS3 and PS4 is so significant, the main CPU unit for PS 3 comes to mind They chose the six-headed cell and from what i know they made a custom made design not because it made technological sense, but because it would make porting FROM the Playstation 3 very, very hard. don't have more links ATM you need to try and ask uncle google yourself bro. have a nice day! I'm well aware of the architecture differences. If the Unreal Engine 3 works on both platforms then CCP's code that interfaces with the UR3 should be the same for both platforms... I'm not saying there isn't platform-specific code too, but I would think a lot of it could be brought over. |
