Hey guys.
Most of you have probably heard of the next big space game called Star Citizen, hope y'all are excited because I sure am.
All you need to know about Star Citizen
Do you guys think it will match up against the behemoth of a game Eve Online or get crushed under EvE online's space MMO heavy weight belt? |

lolno EVE's been molded and has a core fanbase. If anything, players will go to Star Citizen and then hear about EVE and transfer over IF Star Citizen bombs.
And even if it does offer a new and fresh experience in space MMOs, there's a HUGE difference between the Universes and in how expansive they are(looks at Dust 514's future and Valkyrie's potential as a MMO-extension). |

They are two completely different games. EVE is a space simulator sand box. And it does one heck of a job letting you do what ever you want. With its new winter expansion coming out it'll do that job EVEN BETTER.
Star Citizen will need years to even match what eve has as far as players shaping the universe.... So to answer your question, no it will not match up with EVE. But what it will do is provide players with another type of space game play that MAY or MAY NOT be more intriguing depending on what the player is looking for. I for one would LOVE to finally walk around in my ship and my space station... EVE, you have failed on giving me this. You've teased me for years with this captains quarters crap, but you haven't given me this. Star Citizen is GIVING ME THAT! |

I heard this comparison once:
Eve Online is a people simulator. Star Citizen is a spaceship simulator.
Still: Star Citizen seems to get all it's cool features from the Eve Universe. They even announced being able to board enemy ships and fight on planets. |

EVE hasn't had any significant competition since Earth and Beyond. Hopefully Star Citizen will fill that role and inspire CCP to take their game in more ambitious directions in the future. |

I listened to a Star Citizen QnA and those developers are absolutely terrified of eve they would not even try to surpass eve's features when asked if they would. |

This is exactly what I was going to say. Competition is good and may push CCP to step up on it's own game. A good video game example is the Madden series which since there been no direct "NFL / NFLPA approved" competition has only suffered. |

They can surpass EVE by making Star Citizen something EVE will never be: Easily accessible. |

This is like comparing if Grand Theft Auto and Grand Turismo will be able to compete since they both have cars...
EVE and Star Citizen are completely different animals, they are not interchangable anymore then Europa Universalis is interchangable with Empire Total War...

Backed Star Citizen on the first day it was out on Kickstarter and I would do it again in a heartbeat. The game has promise and the developer is well known and has quality space games under his belt. Good things will be delivered... eventually. Probably won't be out for at least another 2 years. Which is fine because looking at footage makes it seem that no current gen PC's are able going to be able to handle its epicness right now. |

Do you have a source for that Q&A we can listen to / read?
There's a lot about Star Citizen's marketing and outreach which could inform how DUST 514 and CCP go about those activities. Perhaps CCP could adapt what RSI is doing to DUST 514's next efforts.

Not marketing Dust at all it a deliberate (and wise) decision on by CCP - you can only try a game for the first time once, and they'd rather most people did then when they've at least nailed down the core stuff. |

From what I know of EVE the two are different animals.
They share the same general idea of spaceships but approach them from different angles.
EVE combat is point and click while SC is FPS. The EVE economy is totally player controled while SC will be NPC controlled or augmented. EVE is completely sandbox while SC will include single player story missions (including several released throughout the year).
SC aims to be a spaceship simulator with a bit of economy on the side and EVE is an economy simulator with some point and click combat on the side. |

I agree with you. The timing for a marketing push is not now. But looking at other folks work and learning from them to plan your next efforts is always a wise idea IMHO.

Its on youtube but the specific one I have a hard time finding because there are multiple QnAs now, It was named like 'what is star citizen' made some time back ago.
We're also talking about a product not out to the masses yet. |

CCP's secret is that they build massive social connection engines disguised as uber-hardcore/geeky games set in a virtual universe.
SoonGäó this will have to me modified to 'massive social connection engines disguised as uber-hardcore/geeky games set in a virtual universe and accessed through a VR interface.
We are the beta testers for mankind's transition to VR. For CCP it's not a question of how but when.
One good reason to stay on this DUSTpony.
Re: Star Citizen, it's certainly ambitious. Spider sense i saying 'feature bloat'. But what really matters is always the same. Gameplay. Poking through their site and remembering freelancer and wing commander decent gameplay seems a possibility.
Roberts will have to make the crucial MMO decision: Deciding the balance of developer written content vs. player generated content. That is what will determine just how much competition it is for EVE.
For myself, if Star Citizen isn't at least as ruthless and brutally punishing with player error as EVE, then Roberts' game is nothing to me. And somehow i just can't imagine Roberts going for the hardcore niche market. I imagine him chasing the numbers and the money.
Maybe that's a disservice to him, dunno. |

SC is a spaceship sim and EVE is an economy sim.
SC could potentially grow a robust economy sim over many years. CCP can create a spaceship sim as an extra, but I can't see EVE ever making the transition to FPS combat. The single shard architecture would have to change to multiple dynamic smaller instances (the SC architecture) and EVE's code base has to be prohibitively large and complicated to make the transition. |

I just hope it comes out to ps4even if it's a downgraded port, and since ps3/4 is a open platform (dust 514 is a perfect example), it is a possibility.
Two genre we core gamers need back on the market are space sims(COLONY WARS!!!), and mech games... |

I was originally going to reply that this would be impossible due to the system requirements this game is going to have. It is already looking like current top end PC's will be middle of the road by the time this game is released to the PC. Meaning the PS4 may not be able to meet the hardware requirements.
HOWEVER, I did some fact checking on myself and it looks like Chris Roberts has said in the past he isn't ruling out releasing to the PS4 after the PC version is squared away. So there is that kernel of hope for you. |
