And before you ask, no, not just a murder taxi. I actually want to be helpful, providing transport and such, though I do find myself barging into gunfights to slam into someone about to kill a teammate. Like a guardian angel, only Gallentean and on wheels.
Anyway, I'd appreciate some general tips to playing as an LAV driver, especially as one who chose armor tanking.
(Also, I tried search, but couldn't find any guides.) |

I can't give you a guide on what to do, so perhaps I can tell you from my viewpoint as a dropship pilot what I would like to see that would help me.
1) Logi LAV - (THe Healer) These are great for quick heals. A support LAV sitting in a safe spot to rep me can be a great help. However, most useful in squad with an ADS so we can ask you for the support,
2) LAV - (The SPonge) Build a strong LAV and go in just in front of the dropship. Get the enemy looking and shooting at you. Use your speed to just blast through so the AV players waste half a clip on you before they realise there is a tank and a dropship rolling up behind you.
3) LAV/Logi - watch where you call it in. Dropship pilots tend to run off into the clear. If you see someone do this give them space.
4)LAV (Actual Taxi) If a dropship is coming in and there are people hanging round to get in. Park nearby. Dropships often do not want passengers, or due to gunning skills want particular passengers. So those wanting to get in will be left, so then you can help. THis will likely change after i.6 or whenever we get locks. |

OK stick to the roads for the most part and when you're gunner is ready try and face the hood of the LAV towards your enemies because it blocks a lot of fire on the gunner's part (although the hood is the LAV weakpoint). Try not to stop a whole lot just try and go real slow but make sure that you aren't the center of attention.
Don't try and barge into the largest fighting area, that's how you get killed. For the most part patrol the outer less populated areas. Doing so provides both assistance to the team and car insurance, as you are less likely to lose your gunner/LAV to a few people trying to flank.
Your passenger should probably be a heavy with an HMG and you should always carry a repair tool as driver. The passenger should always get out when it comes time to fight because it doubles your LAV firepower and helps detract from the exposed gunner.
Never try and operate an LAV by yourself, it's suicide. The moment you die is the moment your LAV dies in such instances. It's good to have a passenger to take the wheel should you lose your life and a gunner for protection.
I can't recommend Scattered blasters anymore because of awful hit detection so go for missiles because they are the only viable small turret left really. |

Any fitting tips?
Right now I'm using the standard Gallente LAV, the Methana. My fitting so far looks something like this;
x2 of the standard armor energizers (reduces damage the armor takes by about 22% total) x1 standard armor repairer x1 militia shield regulator (increases charge rate by 10%)
x1 militia blaster
I know, it's mostly noob gear, but am I at least steering (kek) in the right direction? Should I add more armor plating or what? |

One tip would be to spend $50 and get the veteran pack LAV bpo. Its shield regen rate is obscenely high.
Then if you like doing hit-n-run type operations, fit a scanner.
Or, if you like being more tanky, then save up for logistics LAVs. Sad thing is they can be tougher to destroy than a tank. Because first of all, they can take a lot of damage.. and then when things look bad, they can exit the area very quickly.
Try to find Vehicular Manslaughter, if you can. Attempt to kill him. Take as long as you like. Then grovel in your unworthiness, and beg for his instruction :)

This is really outdated but I've been SP grinding to bring this fitting back to life. Basically understand that an Armor plate + Overdrive combo can really work but try your hardest to get top tier Resistance or Poly Plates. |

2 HUGE things- Don't be predictable (especially don't stay still for more than 3 seconds)
Get a friend or (preferably) 2 to keep squadding with. You can take turns in positions and being the one to spend ISK and call in the LAV. If you're wondering what the passenger does, they jump out to hack or stomp AVers.
Other than that, I believe you'll actually find scout LAVs to be very good. While they have less slots than other LAVs, they still have a good amount of PG/CPU, so you can afford to make the most out of them (my Abron has a prototype stabilized blaster) The bonuses that scout LAVs have in acceleration and tracking speed is also EXTREMELY helpful. |

You are one of the few to recommend the scout LAV. Considering trying them out for the initial blitz with full focus on speed and then recalling when I reach the first objective. I think others have dismissed them as they do scout suits due to their weak defenses. |

I drive a logistics lav with my character Lily the Scarred. You will see this on occasion from me, supporting players as often as I can. Cant tell you how many times I've gotten thank you mail from a person that was running away from a group of infantry units in their proto suit because they organized against said person. Or at least I wish I would...A thank you isn't so hard people! I will drive and position myself horizontally between my teammate and the infantry with my seat facing my teammate. That lav can take a hell of a beating from small arms fire. It really doesn't do much to it unless you have the mass of a team laying into you with high damage weapons. Either give people a lift to objectives or provide much needed mobile cover for your team.
Good bit of advice though, don't stay engaged when the swarms start flying at you. AV will drop you quickly, so book it out of there.
The best bit of advice I can give an LAV pilot....get a good gunner that can hit things while your mobile. At the very least an armed lav harassing the other team is a damn good distraction for your main force to move up, at the most you can have the place mopped up by the time they get there if your gunner is good enough and you stay mobile to keep the two of you alive. |

The vet pack has a blueprint vehicle. It has made my life much more bearable!
In terms of teamplay, I like to equip a scanner and go rolling around the perimeter, it's a solid way to help nail down where the snipers are as well as help isolate enemies.
Murder taxi is no longer really a thing (thank god) but you can still rack up some kills this way. I nailed a squad running across the road and bagged all 4 last week, so drivers aren't helpless!
Lots of good posts up there. Good luck! |

I forgot to add one really big tip that has been made appearent today in my matches. I only seem to lose my lav's now to being killed by the blaster installations. Not the vehicle itself, but the turrets seem to oneshot both me and my gunner on occasion. Stay clear of those turrets unless your health and shields ( Located as a tiny display under your vehicle's armor and shielding ) are at least 75%. If you cant avoid them, pick either a route that allows you the fastest route past the turret to maintain your speed, or the route that offers you cover from the turret itself but will still allow you to get by it quickly. If possible, have a sideseat person for hacking installations to do it. |

Dooh....
I wanted to repy to a prior post, and ended up EDITING it by mistake :(
reposting it as n actual post, so poeple see it :(

More info on this: I got a logi LAV, to around 4,000 HP. (the shield version) And that's WITHOUT ADV gear. And oh by the way it has 40% damage resist on shields, and naturally fast shield regen. If you get hit by a swarm, (or maybe even two?!) you can survive easily, and be out of range before they can fire a second volley.
There's something very wrong, when these things can be specced tougher than a tank, and they're an open-cockpit vehicle. but hey, it's there, so use it! :)
unless, I think they're going away with the big vehicle nerf. So, keep an eye out on that :(

Don't forget when driving instilations to go slow near the entrances - that's where folk put their proximity mines and you do get a audio warning before you run over them. Unless you are driving at break neck speed.
Speaking of, watching out for going around blind corners at high speed or even along long stretches - you can end up running into a LAV from your own team and exploding! |
