5% heat reduction per level is out of line with other racial suit bonuses. It's the only dropsuit skill that provides a direct DPS increase (to the LR) and a sustained DPS increase (SCR). Therefore, using any other suit with those weapons, or other weapons with that suit, is effectively penalized. My Amarr Logi should be able to use the LR just as well as my assault comrades, instead of having to sacrifice a magical land of bonus damage in exchange for equipment slots. The LR either has to be slightly UP without the Amarr assault or slightly OP with it- there's no good way to balance a weapon whose damage is directly affected by choice of suit. I don't know what the Amarr assault bonus should be changed to, but the current state is bad. Thoughts? Suggestions? |

It is a bit out of line with the other. However the whole consistency of the dropsuit bonuses is weird and random.
I think CCP are looking into it but who knows when we'll get any info out of them let alone actual changes.
As for the Amarr bonus it is an indirect damage bonus. Direct would be +x damage or something. This bonus just lets you fire longer so it is indirect. Just being pedantic.
I would like to see more suits types with different flavour. ie. A generic tanky suit. ie. A suit with a racial weapon bonus (like the Amarr one)
That way every race gets their damage boost suit at the cost of something.
This kind of thing has been discussed in the tiericide threads somewhere. |

With the LR damage formula (+damage for each previous shot fired without letting off the trigger), a heat reduction equates to having access to a level of +damage that is simply not achievable through any other means. That seems pretty direct to me, especially with the prevalence of preheating. For example, a Cal assault picks up a LR and fires continuously, overheating with 50 shots remaining in the clip. An amarr assault uses the same LR, but overheats with, say, 35 shots remaining in the clip. Those last 15 shots had a damage bonus that, at this point, can only come from Amarr Assault skill bonuses. |

I was just quibbling over terminology and I stand by what I said not that it is particularly important.

E.G. Gallente getting +x% rof for Plasma/Blaster weapons, Caldari +x% to Optimal Range for Railweaponry or min +x Damage to projectile weaponry....

Honestly, it made more sense when Caldari were getting a Hybrid reload bonus. I sort of expect all the "assault" bonuses to be direct bonuses to weapon types favored by those races. If anything, laser is a bit restrictive compared to "hybrid", which would cover any weapon made by Caldari/Gallente. Sidearm clip-size is also comparatively broad, given the eventual addition of many more sidearms.
I think indirect bonuses (like clipsize or overheating) make more sense than direct damage because of how damage is calculated in this game. I wouldn't mind an individualized list of weapon bonuses for all the racial weapons either though.
e.g. - 5% heat build reduction on Scrambler/Laser, X% bonus to Scrambler Pistols
There's no reason they couldn't just list off bonuses for all Caldari weapons, etc. on a given suit. Especially if we're looking at 4-5-ish weapons per race. They just need to keep some sort of relative balance for the races, which is lacking with weapons unreleased.
My concern with the Amarr is there don't appear to be anymore laser (or Amarr) light/sidearm weapons coming, and the bonus does nothing for the pistol. A Minmatar Assault potentially has a Combat Rifle, Mass Driver, Flaylock, Precision Rifle, and SMG - substantially more weapons (and the sidearm bonus starts to look REALLY stupid at that point).
So, we're advancing towards a point with a lack of parity with available weapons for the races, and the bonuses highlight that in a way. |
