You would think that all of the Caldari companies would promote competition and create more favorable consumer products. And don't give me that, "it keeps the price down" BS, I can get a Minmatar medium frame that allows me to do a split and with built in synthetic fur (with nano circulation), for the same freakin' price.

Caldari designs tend to be self-consciously utilitarian. Comfort is not so much a secondary or tertiary concern as a non-issue as long as the user's discomfort does not impact performance.
This is partly a reflection of traditional Caldari cultural values (the culture came of age on a snowball flecked with mud, trees, and toxic shrubbery) and partly a rejection of Gallentean cultural values (they tend to get obsessive about making everything ergonomic).
To place utility before comfort in your choice of gear is to display a high regard for practicality over ease: a high Caldari cultural value. As such, you could even consider its lack of frills a selling point when marketing to citizens of the State. |

Well ... self-consciously utilitarian design is itself an aesthetic, really.
Matari workmanship tends to be utilitarian by necessity. Caldari workmanship tends to be utilitarian by preference. |
