EVE is planning an invasion somewhere and Dust mercs go in and disrupt by damaging certain parts of the ship (SW: Battlefront 2) or do a Halo and take the ship completely.
Or another interesting scenario, a ship is locked in a docking station and it has merc's on it. It could be a Trojan Horse attacking the station and taking the ships that are docked if not countered with a Dust security force. Or the dock is surrounded and hostiles are nearby, we can be sent as recon or board ships as an offensive of defensive measures to ease your way out of the dock.
We can be used as SF troops to disrupt mining or logistical support (seems more like pirates). We could entered a ship and take the EVE pilot hostage or assassinate him in a large battle. Or maybe a director robbed the wallet, we can go ahead him borad the ship and take what was stolen as and way to retake what was lost a feature not available in EVE. Many possibilities. Just a thought |

I think we're really far from this, unfortunately.
I think to do it right, they need to bring interiors to EVE moreso than they are as well. Incarna needs to be restarted EVE side, so that DUST and EVE see similar environments while aboard ships and stations. |

The systems are so different that this can't happen in it's current incarnation. Also not likely to happen ever as it would require a major sweeping overhaul of the entire Eve Online system. Besides, a team of 16 mercs wouldn't stand a chance of taking anything bigger than maybe a frigate as everything else would have enough internal defense to easily deal with a mere 16 interlopers. Might be able to take a cruiser if they increased the team size to 60. And even if the mercs did manage to take a ship, it would just explode and kill them all within two minutes as the pilot would set the self destruct and eject when it became obvious he was going to loose his ship or the pilot's fleet mates would just blow it out of the sky in short order, also killing the mercs.
So if you want to be able to take a player owned ship in Eve, then it would only be fair for ships fit with code breaker modules to be able to hack your dropsuit and take control of your Dust character's actions on the battlefield, including the suicide function. |

Also if we were allowed to disable the self-destruct it would help. How would one pay attention to the losing allied ship in a heated engagement. Also taking over a Dust body makes no sense but if you hire Dusters to defend your ship doesn't that make more sense. Also you are able to destroy assault pods if you can spot them. I think that would be fair. |

Technical issues aside you need to know how things work in Eve Online and there's a lot to explain and I won't do it here because I don't feel like typing out a small book's worth of text.
So...
PVE would be fine for NPC ships, but Player controlled ships are an entirely different animal. They're not normal ships. They require an Eve Pilot to operate.
As for dissabling the self destruct? You'd still have to deal with the IDFF changing from friendly, or in fleet, to non fleeted neutral at best when the pilot ejects in his pod.
As for taking control of the Merc, it wouldn't be controlling the body, though that wouldn't be out of the question as the clone control signal could be hacked, but controlling the dropsuit.
And I don't see an Eve pilot paying the huge amounts it would take to hire the approximately 100 or so dust mercs it would take to supply basic security on a ship the size of a cruiser. It'd be cheaper to let it get popped and by another one.
As for seeing the assault pods... Everything on grid shows on the Eve pilot's overview unless it's cloaked.
Most likely scenario... If cloaked, the cloak, would drop the moment the assault pod gets within 2km of any ship friend or foe. Pod gets called as target and attacked. If the pod makes contact, pilot sets self destruct and waits to see if "internal defenses" deal with the interlopers while communicating with the fleet that the ship has been boarded. Internal defense succeeds, pilot cancels destruct and notifies fleet he's clear. Internal defense fails, pilot ejects and ship Destructs killing the mercs. Frozen corpses are collected as trophies.
Take the supposition that the mercs can somehow disable the destruct...
...pod makes contact, pilot sets self destruct and waits to see if "internal defenses" deal with the interlopers while communicating with the fleet that the ship has been boarded. Several nearby fleet members target lock the boarded ship. Internal defense succeeds, pilot cancels destruct and notifies fleet he's clear. Internal defense fails, pilot ejects and notifies fleet. The ships sits as a neutral non fleeted unpiloted ship as the other fleet ships open fire destroying the boarded ship and the mercs. Frozen corpses are collected as trophies. |
