Terrain currently in the game does not look natural, theres no sign of over time enviromental factors appearing to lead into the deseign of the terrain.
Lacking are the ditches and trenches formed for water run off or the carving of the rock and earth from wind or rain. The terrains are without age to them, looking like they are formed by a tool instead of years of weather.
Prime example of this is the map previously known as manus peak, the large flat area to the (east?) where the peak use to be. It has no depth or character like it would of been formed by anything natural, more such like people came in with machines and just sead "yep, that looks messy, good enough".
The game deserves to have natural elements to it like glacial formed enviroments or enviroments formed by metor strikes. Look towards earth a bit more, All the different terrain and how it was formed over the millions of years, how terrrians match up and dont just change dramatically, the natural aesthetics.
Thanks for reading.
I'll start by saying, aesthetics do play a big role in gamer enjoyment and the "feel" of the game. so i do agree with you on this point.
Here is where I disagree. The Lore of the EVE universe does not allow it. while some temperate planets have the elements that contribute the weather and erosion naturally, most planets have to be "terraformed" to be habitable. this means that they were in fact made by people who love their flat areas and their rough edges. Terraforming planets, as far as lore is concerned, is expensive but does introduce elements such as water and air to planets for habitability. This means that the land on the planet really is only as old as the people who have inhabited it. Also, not all planets are actually inhabited. Many are just stable enough for industry.
so my point is. CCP made these planets to follow the content of their universe. you wouldn't ask for cars and planes in a medieval game cuz it doesn't make sense, as such neither does it here. |
