As you read this CCP is working to make a complete overhaul of the Vehicles in the game. These changes, expected to arrive in 1.6, aim to make vehicles "powerful, but not overpowered" as well as "vulnerable, but not weak" and find a niche for them. At this point not a single day goes by without a new thread discussing HAVs. Dropships also have had their share of discussion, but what about LAVs? Aside from the murder taxi problem (solved, rest in peace) not much has been said about this vehicle class. Well, this thread is here to try to fix that and try and influence a little bit the path these vehicles shall take with the forthcoming changes. So...
LAVs - Light Assault Vehicles - are able to transport up to 3 Mercenaries exposed to enemy fire, have one light turret hardpoint and are reasonably fast, durable and cheap. Most obvious use for LAVs is transportation (two of them could reliably transport a whole squad around), but they could have other functions like their specializations suggest. Currently they have two specializations: Logistic and Scout. The first is frequently used due to its incredible resilience (safer than a tank), but mostly to just move around since it is very rare to see one of those being used for anything logistic related. The second one is supposed to perform fast attacks with a driver and a gunner, but, since I'm still to see one of those in the field, I'm guessing that doesn't work, probably because the Light Turret isn't nearly powerful enough as it should be to make these runs a viable strategy.
So, what do you think LAVs could do and how would you suggest that they go about it? DEVs stated that they would try to "remove the 'noise'" and "focus in the core Archetypes". Would this imply that they will remove at first the vehicle specializations? So how would we go about with the new Basic LAVs? Suggestions, observations, worries, let's hear it all.
To get the ball rolling: -Personally I believe that the basic LAVs should have the potential to be more resistant. You shouldn't have to skill up for a Logistics role just to transport people around more safely, the basic LAVs should be good enough at transportation and the Logistic should be good at that: Logistic. - About LLAVs: I heard that doing logistic stuff with the LLAV is a little problematic, something about the camera. Could we hear any suggestions to make it work better? As for power level, should LLAVs be able to easily heal whole Squads of Infantry, like a mobile healing center? Or should they be more limited, or dedicated to support only other Vehicles? - Should LAVs be viable attack platforms? Should SLAVs even exist? With limited ammunition in turrets do you believe that it could be worth it to actually use a LAV/SLAV's Light Turret instead of your Duvolle to deal with nearby infantry? Should it be? Could we make it viable to run fast attacks at lightly defended targets? What changes could be made to make that possible?
I understand that from all the vehicle line LAVs are the only ones that doesn't have a passionate group of user. Tankers and DS pilots are proud of what they do, and they should be, but LAVs are mostly only seen as tools right now. If there is a right time to change that, that time is now fellows. Sit straight and let's go for a little ride to help CCP create a fun/useful vehicle class in this game. |

There was never a problem with LAVs. There was a problem however, with so many never wanting to bother with AV, because it would take away from their pubstomping abilities. Nobody wanted to deal with the problem directly, so the community wanted CCP to nerf physics. |

Well, I've made 2 threads on both SLAV's and LLV's. THe whole rambo LAV idea shoudl be trashed honestly, and be a actual Scouting tool. And the LLV needs an adjusted Triage module. All of this and more can be viewed here. |

The LLAV infanty repair lock on is glitchy in general, it'll lock on to the driver the majority of the time. Then there's those who play the actual roll of the LLAV, we can't even see friendly health bars anymore, so basically it's pointless using it other than transporting people as well as quick hit and runs. The rambo SLAV is a perfectly viable idea i don't see the problem it should just require more sp obviously, since it would most likely lack in resistance as opposed to the LLAV. |

Light turrets need a rework too, which is what they are doing...or allegedly doing.
Scout LAVs are a huge joke with less CPU and PG of the basic with the armor of the militia LAV it might as well be a faster militia vehicle.
There's no point to run a Scout LAV outside of kicks and giggles. |

So true i mean the small rail turret is completely useless, I tried using it the other day on my LLAV. It was a prototype small rail turret with one 10% damage mod, hit one red dot directly and i did around 50 damage to his shields. I mean what the hell is that? |

I'm confused. There is no lock on the Triage module has no lock. Are you talking about the infantry rep? |

I'll give you some feedback about the LLAV actually providing actual LOGISTICS - Its hard work and unrewarding.
Right now just using the vehicle remote repairs is hard and you have no way of even seeing the health of the thing you are trying to rep. Still this is a role that is legit and I wish war points were awarded for vehicle remote repairs along with the ability to see friendly vehicles hit point status. |

^^This^^
I think apart from extra fitting options the scout LAV needs extra speed coupled with an inbuilt passive scanner or something! Anything that aids it in a scouting role. |

Well, try reading my idea, and both of the problems you have for SLAV's and LLV's might be solved. Just read them. |
