I would bet that at STD level you will get a longer range breach rifle with a scope and something like the TAC-AR, but better than the TAC-AR (same range, bigger clip), but can overheat or something. While the TAC-AR gets nerfed. |

Perhaps it will have a small required charge up time, where the charge can't be held and fires immediately upon charge completion. So you just hold down the trigger and it will continually loop through this process until overheats. That does sound like a "breach" weapon to me in Dust terminology. Though I'd probably expect it to fire more than 3 shots before overheat and not do quite that much damage per shot. Yeah, something like 0.2-second charges, with maybe 90 damage/shot. Like a small rail turret but not awful. I imagine it will have recoil like the Tac but maybe 1.5x more, to balance it over range. I'm hoping for an effective range of maybe 120M with an optimal out to 70-80?
I like how there is a pretty significant difference between the feel of shooting a STD AR vs. a STD ScR. I would really like there to be a similar amount of difference with a rail and combat rifle.
If it wasn't an insta fire automatic weapon, but the speed of a semi-auto 100-200 RPM, and the possibility of over heating, and the need to hold the trigger for at least a split second before firing actually starts would be a nice and different feeling. An alternative to overheating with damage, would be overheating drastically reducing firing rate. I would accept this as a very acceptable balance to a long range weapon. Basically start out with 200 RPM, then every round decreases RPM by 5%. So, 13-14 rounds in your DPS is halved because your RoF is halved. So it would feel like a front-loaded damage weapon that would take careful bursting to get max DPS.
It seems like the story with most of the weapons is that there is the 'dumb' way to use most of them to get decent effective application, then a more technical way to use them that really unlocks their potential.
I'm thinking combat rifle would be something kind of like an HMG, but longer range, high RoF, with its main mechanic being a large weapon clip, and crappy dispersion becoming much more accurate as you hold the trigger. Bigger weapon spread could actually not be so much of a penalty up close, and the higher precision rate would be better than the AR outside of AR optimals after about 1 second of continuous fire. The combat rifle could kind of have a feel of a combination of a shorter range laser rifle and HMG. |
