GTA V has had a dramatic impact with peak numbers dropping by at least 1000. This equates to a total playerbase drop of around 12,000, which is seriously significant. This game really needs to pull something big out the bag in the immediate future or Dust is going to get left in the... errr dust. |

We are simply playing a demo until 2.0 comes out and we get a full range of suits, weapons, vehicles, racial outposts and new game modes (PVE). I've made that complaint. How are my decisions supposed to matter in a ******* demo that changes every month? When it was officially in beta it changed more like every 4-5 months. We wanted a 'finished game' at release. It NEEDED to be a finished game at release. Now it needs to be finished before all the bigger shinier toys completely overshadow it and this game is forgotten about.
Don't get me wrong, I love this game and want it to succeed more than any other game but even the most loyal of players only has so much patience and when decisions are taken that effectively stall gameplay expansion (PVE on hold; Dust/Eve link plans reduced), that really makes people lose hope.
Rather than just look at the numbers and get all doom and gloom though, we have to think about what CCP can do to regain and grow its playerbase. Fixing all the broken things might get some leavers back. Adding more gear and maps will keep the current players' attentions. The way I see it though, the only way CCP can gain new players ever is to expand on the game and show something tangible that lets us see the 'grand vision' coming through.
*the grand vision being a massive, open world, expanding beyond the realms of just a lobby shooter (which it is atm, even in PC). This should be Eve in FPS form. Fittings and character wise, it's not extremely far off - in terms of gameplay depth/variety it is lightyears away. |
