Partial list of reasons I currently will not spend more money on Dust:
1. If it will tranquilize an elephant it can't be good for you.
2. Black screens that leave players half dead before they can see the enemy when spawning at a link/CRU. (Didn't have that trouble in 1.3 We just wanna try to gtfo of the way.)
3. Militia weapons mowing down heavies. (the game was more balanced before 1.4 aim assist than afterward. The AA and hit detection were near perfect for about two days last week, but it got tuned back toward a poorer game experience. Hit detection is working great, and far too good for a heavy hand on the aim assist. My aiming is a contender for Worst Player In Dust, but I still don't want an overtuned aim assist or hit detection that makes armor and shields irrelevant.)
4. AA weapons taking down half of the maximum possible health points in something like .5 seconds, regardless of meta level and from distances that simply make no sense. This, added to number 3, really makes it look like CCP is more interested in attracting new players than it is in retaining a loyal long term fan base. I really would like to be wrong about that.
5. Even seasoned FPS players who've been with Dust since closed beta are wondering if CCP will pull this off.
6. Many current game review websites and magazines won't even admit the game exists anymore. Critics don't sway everybody, but market share is still important. Dust addicts want to see new players love the game like we do.
7. Shotguns firing blanks. ('Nuff said. That sucks.)
8. Vehicles that can't be protected from blue dots that want to harass their teammates or steal vehicles we pay good isk or real money for. Seriously Devs, have you played the game? Shouldn't a guy who risks millions of isk or pays real world, hard earned money be able to keep his investment if he can keep it alive on the battlefield? Have you ever seen a blue dot hop in someones drop ship and refuse to get out? They're just being jerks and discouraging that innocent player from spending money that you would earn. Blue dots hopping in an LAV you called down so that you and your squad could execute a strategy, and then driving off with it when you hop out to shoot the enemy or hack an objective is caused by poor design at best. Suggestions: Vehicles should be lockable to squad only, and/or have the ability to boot players out so we can recall our vehicles. Keep them hackable and destroy-able by the opposing team, that makes sense, but let us use them for our own good gameplay purposes. I for one won't buy an aurum vehicle again or even use the ones I own until you do. I'd rather let them rot. (And kicking them out over a swarm of red dots would be plain poetic justice, not to mention a good deterrent.)
9. Too much catering to whiners in the forums instead of sticking to design intent, which is often an awesome and attractive concept. Trust your judgment a little more and recognize when your judgment is wrong without relying on cry baby forum trolls, Devs you're good enough to make this work. Discriminate more with regard to the forum input and trust your own judgment a little more. (Yep, that's a contradiction. It can't be easy being god over the battlefield.)
10. Lastly, even if it has to be in the long term game design, program in the ability to respec. Tell us that it'll be two years if you must. Make it have a high aurum cost if you must so that you can profit from us, but show us some respect for the time and money we are willing to invest in your game by providing a way for us to change up and further enjoy the game. Make it a once per character limit, or maybe make it once every two years. Blizzard finally recognized the wisdom in WoW. Learn from them. Steal the idea. Make it happen. Make more money.
I'm holding out hope that CCP will tune this update into a good game again. I, like so many others have put considerable time and money into this game. I want to regain my desire to support Dust financially, and I'm sure many others do. Many of us are willing to work through these early stages with you. Please do not water Dust down to a weak, muddy, everyday FPS that requires nothing more than a quick trigger finger and the luck of the draw. Right now, anybody who wants to explore the more technical, weaker builds is almost crazy not to skill into one of the aim assisted weapons and carry 800 to 1000 armor minimum just to survive, and the cerebral value of the game is becoming more obscure...
Except for the scouts, they're just badass folks willing to do it the hard way. My hat's off to the light suit wearing shotgunners and nova knivers. Even with far too little PG and CPU they still kick ass and I'd like to see them get a little long overdue fixin' up. Second equipment slots would definitely help them do their job in a more interesting and effective way. (This last comment is not a deal breaker but dang, show the scouts some lovin'!)
Thanks CCP for the hard work we know you're doing. I hope that this can be received as constructive criticism from an ally and supporter rather than another troll jab at this creative sandbox world we all wish to enjoy. I put my money where my mouth is and I spend my money where it will provide me the most fun. I hope that will continue to be in your coffers.

+1 for #9
The amount of crying that goes on in this game is getting to be too much. I'm seriously thinking about taking a break from Dust for a bit. Whiners are ruining my experience. Mercs are whining about every single thing when the game doesn't go their way and its downright annoying. |

When 1.4 came out and my build became near impossible to survive in, I pulled out a dren sentinel suit and put an AR on it and started mindlessly walking toward red dots while shooting at them. It was too easy to get a half decent kill score without even trying. My corp mates thought I had lost it.
It felt like I'd been shot up with elephant tranquilizer. (Boring as hell.)
It's not quite as bad now, and until that experiment, for the first two days I thought my already bad FPS skills had gotten infinitely worse. I wasn't worse, the game was.
I named the sentinel Mongo because that is what playing felt like.
"Me Mongo, me kill red stuff."
So I abandoned my build and tried what turned out to be the most fun I've ever had in Dust. I put on a scout suit with no expectation of surviving at all and had a blast going 2/10. I die horribly but the kills I get are well earned and generally it's a blast.
Sneaking up behind immobile snipers is one of the best kills in the game, and counts as good as ten kills.
I will not be mentioning my horrible KDR but it brought some semblance of fun back to the game. This week in Dust has been a regression back to that experience. For a short time it looked like they had fixed the game. I still hated AR's but they were realistic against my squishy suit. But they tweaked it back to near ridiculous.
Sadly, I have decided that if I want to play with the friends I've met in game, I have no choice but to accept tht I have to skill up in one of those weapons and build a medium suit if I ever expect to play the game even close to the customized way I enjoy and have survivability. IE. add as much armor as I can, as much shield as I can and the most powerful gun I can afford and run with the pack.
The result... Dust is less fun and no different than any other full release FPS except that it really feels like it's in beta.
Scout is more fun. If someone wants to brag about killing my 200 health, they make themselves the fool. I'd rather be the worst dead scout than the best mind numb heavy.
(No offense to heavies. I know of some that are awesome players.)

Out of all the issues with this game, #9 really hits the hardest. Even if a dev can confidently prove that it's not true, the fact that a lot of us think otherwise is detrimental to a community were developers listen to player feedback. Kind of off topic, but when I first caught word of the Kickstarter for Mighty No. 9 and Inafune asking for player feedback, I thought about Dust and cringed a little. I've probably put ~$100 into Dust, all from PSN rewards since I don't have anything else to use them on. Even if they fix all the other listed issues, #9 will make me reluctant to put my own cash into the game until I'm sure that productive, articulate feedback takes priority over all.

My active booster ends next Monday, if 1.5 had included new stuff as originally planned I was gonna shell out more money, but with GTA Online being up next week, I don't think I'll have the time to cap. I'm excited to see more posts on the other minimal changes, but, unless they pull out something completely random, my money will be elsewhere.
I have two months of passive boosters left, if great changes occur in that amount of time, they'll probably see more money, if not, its been fun. |

I'm betting that they hope to one day make a profit on Dust. Why else would they have created it? Making a game this complex can't be easy or inexpensive. I'm willing to wait for the difficult part, but the monetary part remains to be seen. If I didn't care about their success, I definitely wouldn't have bothered to tell them what I think.
CCP might pull this off yet, and I really want them to. WarRavens are the main reason I keep coming back right now, because the corp is full of good people and good times. Fighting, learning and dying alongside you guys is icing on the cake, but right now the cake seems a little soggy.
I'll hold out, because if Dust revives it'll be even more of a pleasure to be a WarRaven. |

I think they dug their own grave with Uprising and each patch it feels like they are digging the hole deeper and faster then they're able to climb out...
AA and TTK killed it for me honestly, especially a game where we have to pay for our deaths and we're supposed to have a sandbox full of variant suit fittings.... |

Good point for some people, I'm sure, but not where I am concerned. I have put my share of money into the game. Had I not, I would have had to have some audacity to make these points. I tend toward disregarding the opinions of freeloading whiners.
A careful reader would likely have picked up that I'm very willing to put more money into the game if I can see a future for my investment. My preference would be to always have both passive and active boosters at a minimum, but again, only if that cash is gonna' pay off down the road by allowing me to further enjoy the game.
Writing these points off as mere excuses is irrelevant to the content. The point is for CCP to receive honest input from people who are willing to support them.
I have, and will continue to pay the creators of "free to play" games when I enjoy them, because I understand and respect the work it takes to provide this service. I doubt that most of the forum trolls ever stop to think about how difficult it must be to create a game with this much detail and potential.
I hope that clears it up for you. |

I should be honest with myself and with the general reader. I may yet still put a minimal amount of cash toward boosters, and I may still do it with a sense of gratitude to CCP, but it is not likely at the moment, and if I do it will be with restraint that I would not otherwise have. |

I agree with you, particularly with respect to AA being too strong (and TTK being too low), as well as needing vehicle locks and wanting CCP to stick to their vision and data when it comes to balancing.
I've spent some good dough on this game and hope that it will improve in future patches. I do think that CCP has made strides in many areas: Graphics, matchmaking (seems to work great for me), making it harder to AFK, adding new maps and backdrops, experimenting with events, forum presence and communication....
I'd like to spend some more on this game and maybe will once some new merc packs roll out.... we'll see. I definitely will spend a good deal more if things improve by leaps and bounds.
I like the idea of Dust being a deep and complex game, where it takes more skill and time to kill opponents than in other games.

Actually, I think they had the "hole" in the first place when they started, but decided to put a few branches and some leafs to hide it for a while. Now they are trying to fill the hole while keeping the branches right there.
I did put Dust on the shelf for a while, until a real update, not a optimization of the actual game. I was hoping new content for a while, some PvE, some more game modes, some new vehicles, maps and such. Now, I wont waste my time waiting and playing just to get more isk and more SP I dont see the reason getting.
I am definately not the type of player who want to play for the leaderboard, or to get more SP/isk than anyone. I play for the fun and variety. The game doesn't provide me variety and that fun I am looking for.
And yes, the forum full of bad post isn't helping anything really. But some are just there to make things crash for their own personal joy. |

Aside from the points listed, for me its content.
I have absolutely no reason to gain the max amount of SP possible anymore. I have over 4mil in unallocated SP and could easily max out my character to the way I want it with that. The only thing that makes me feel like its worth it to play the game right now is treating my toon like he has 16 million SP rather than 20+.
All a merc pack would do is give me more BPOs that I already have and cant sell and more SP that I dont really need. CCP needs to fill out the racial variants and add more interesting content to this game for me to see any need to speed up my SP accrual. And by interesting, I mean fighters, MTACs, MAVs and not reskinned Assault Rifles or a special ed Heavy. |
