7 steps that I feel would make the plasma cannon a better weapon.
- Triple projectile travel speed. It currently sits around 30-35m/s. 100m/s would be a good speed for the projectile.
- Increase max ammo capacity(14).
- Reduced CPU usage for standard(55-60) and advanced(80-85).
- Decrease reload time to about 1.5 seconds. I'm happy with it being a single shot weapon. Just change the animation so instead of having to open the compartment, put in the capsule and close it. You just replace that whole section as the magazine.
- Be able to hold the charge, but with a 50% movement penalty whilst charging/charged.
- Add Variants. For Example:
- Assault - Decreased Charge time, 2 shot magazine, larger splash damage and radius, decreased direct damage, no charge hold.
- Burst - Fires 3 low damage (300 direct, 100 splash) projectiles with slight deviations to their initial flight paths, long charge time (1.5 seconds).
- Tactical - No projectile drop off, increased projectile travel speed, low splash damage and radius, added sight for zoomed aiming, longer charge time(1 second), lower max ammo count(8).
- Fix the bug where weapons can't be swapped out for a few seconds after firing. I've died many a time because of it.
I think this would make the Plasma cannon a more enjoyable weapon. |

It'd be very similar to the plasma cannon at the moment except it will fires faster and so have better DPS, be easier to fit, easier to hit targets with because you will have to give less lead as the projectle will move a lot faster, more control over exactly when the shot fires and more varieties for different situations. I honestly can't see anything that'd be worse about it. |

The way it functions right now is basically like the 'Arc Cannon' described in the Templar One novel, which is an Amarrian plasma heavy weapon, which should also be included in the game. Slower, more 'lobbing' projectile, bursting over a widened area (say, 5-6m splash radius). Direct damage lower than the gallente plasma cannon, but splash damage much higher, with the splash also being effective against vehicles, not just the direct hit.
Actually, the description seems to put emphasis on splash: 'The dense plasma discharge it generates is highly unstable, decaying rapidly and venting sufficient heat and energy to severely damage targets caught within its critical emission radius.' So I feel the splash is fine. :)
Also, that sounds like a cool weapon. If only CCP worked fater on new content. :P |
