I just had a couple of questions for you guys and gals, simply for the pursuit of knowledge.
1. Are you consistently losing money (ISK) when playing Dust and if you are, how much do you lose generally speaking?
2. Can you perform as well as you can in a PROTOTYPE (top of YOUR line) suit with an ADV, STD, MLT or Free suit? (Only suits, doesnt matter if you fit a duvolle or an exile on your ADV its still an ADV suit)

I can lose up to a 1mil ISK a match when wearing proto on a bad day, but i'm rich so i don't care.
If i could perform as well in mil suits as proto it would make no amount of sense for me to use proto. |

1. I run my militia BPOs to make money, my Advanced HMG fits usually break even or go negative. I lose money however because I fly logi dropships on the side...and...well....yea....
2. My BPO AR fatty outperforms my Proto HMG heavy most days of the week. Proto seems like a waste if you aren't in a full squad or if you're a heavy. |

Thanks for the replies, keep em coming I'd like to hear from as much people as possible
This question is more geared to our run of the mill assault, logis etc since this is a developing game I can understand that some specialization routes are less "effective" than others (namely scouts and vehicle users but then again I did specifically ask about SUITS)
I run proto for PC matches and the occasional weapons or suit testing in Pub games
Other than that its ADV suits all day every day for me and I've been making millions from Pub games alone |

Yeah, it really depends on what you can afford. I typically end up isk-positive for the match, but I only run in suits I know I'll make up the difference. If I'm losing a few proto suits, I may take it down to advanced.
There's several factors to consider if you'll do as well with various suits. Largely, your skill is going to be the determining factor on whether you do well/poorly, but you have to take into account fittings, skill levels, etc. Are you running a Dren suit with complex gear? Advanced suit with complex? Advanced suit with militia gear? It's not a cut and dry scale. |

Aurum Standards with Modules.
They run around ~600K ISK ~550 Aurum
I loose about 1 tank every dozen matches.
I currently have a stockpile of 50 Mads with Proto-turrets and no modules.
I usually only have 3-6 Million in the bank. |

1. Pretty much anything I run puts me in the green unless I am wearing lots of proto gear and have a particularly bad match
2. No, with all the extra health and damage prototype gear provides I can do much better than if I were running just standard gear The way the curve is set up now lessens the importance of player ability in favor of character ability and needs to be fixed |

I keep between 50 and 60 millions in my wallet. Never go below 50. (if i ever do; I'll use BPOs)
I buy expensive proto logi stuff when I'm in that range or over 60 mil. I keep the stocks high.
I always keep stock (100 to 500) of each items I use in my fittings, so I never have the fear of running out in a battle.
Even if I lose a lot of stuff in battle, it seems I go positive anyway cause I'm breaking constantly the 60 mil. and keep buying gear to fatten my armory.

o7 Tib. 1. I am showing a profit but not a large one. Probably around 50k-150k per match over several dozen-100 matches.
2. My primary focus in Dust since 1.4 has been profit margin. I run either Standard or Adv logi suits with BPO mods and Adv equipment. My avg suit load out costs around 10k isk. My 'blue' suits run 3-4k and my 'expensive' suits 20-30k. I try to keep my deaths/match under 6.

Oh hey True you may want to reconsider going exclusively HAV if/when they give us a respec. This week I unlocked Wolfman's PCP-30 Scrambler Pistol, slapped it on my favorite advanced assault fit and went to town. Damn, that thing is so godly. |

The problem with my advanced suit is that if I want to use my Carthum Assault Scrambler Rifle, I might as well throw it onto a suit that can stack two damage mods and still have over 800 ehp with plenty of regen...than a suit with only 1 damage mod, 600 ehp, and slower regen.
Why not just use the adv instead of the proto? The Carthum is WAY more accurate at range...meaning that if I use the adv scrambler, I'm having to rush in to get close enough to use it, whereas I can snipe with my carthum.
I have adv suits that I run more often (the most expensive of which is a forge gun fit), but if we're already doing well, or if I need to defend an objective, or I'm running with a good squad, I'll run proto most of the time.
I stopped using basic suits a long time ago because I really don't care about isk. I stay above 20 million, and I work my way up slowly to 30 million. Once I hit that point I'll just run proto as much as I like until I get back down to 25 million and I'll slow down again.
Honestly, if there isn't anything else to spend isk on, and I'm not involved in PC or a corp, why should I hoard it? I heard people have upwards of 400+ million. That's ridiculous! I have fun my trying out new fitting and new things because that's what proto lets me do. More modules does not mean more of the same, it means more room to fit different modules for versatility.
If you have 2 low slots, you can only fit two different types of modules...say a plate and a repair. 3 slots gives you access to a sprint mod, and maybe at 4 you can also run a profile dampener. Sure this might not be very survivable, but you never know until you try it out. Sure I might lose a lot of money just trying new things but that's what I enjoy.
The other thing is that if you get good at the game, isk starts to become something you don't worry about anymore. I usually make an average of 400k+ every match, even if some matches I throw away 3-4 200k suits. The thing is, there are some matches where I don't die a single time and I end up with plenty of isk profit. That's what I like about proto, it keeps me on the battlefield instead of dying and spawning back in all of the time. And no, I do not care about my kdr one bit (however it has gone up from 1.74 to 2.00 since 1.4) |

o7 Tib. 1.) I usually make a profit. I normally limit my ADV Mass Driver fitting to 3 uses per game. That totals to roughly 130k ISK. Once I reach those 3 deaths, I switch to my STD Logi fitting which allows me to place 4 Uplinks at a time. Each of fitting is about 11k and I could still die 6-8 more times and still profit as I usually end each match with a 210k+ ISK payout.
2.) I don't have prototype gear on my Logi aside from my MDs. However, my Heavy tends to do well in its proto fitting, but 2 deaths per match is all I can afford. I would rather use my STD fitting which can do equally well. It's so much cheaper and I can die about 12 times before I lose any profit. |

As for the OP - I always try to run a profit in matches and probably do in at least 3/4 of games. But I don't have proto suits yet and run adv gallente scout; even when I do get proto, I probably won't use it because it has less high slots for damage mods. My most expensive suit is 45k and that's my AV fit. I've tried using proto weapons boosting the cost up to around 80k and did a little better but not worth twice the price.
Generally I finish matches top 3 with <1000wp being a bad game; 1500 being normal; and 2000 being a good game. |

I feel if I have less than 150 million I am broke. I run cheap suits all the time. The cheaper the better and the crazy thing is my KDR and wallet keep going up. I want to run proto but if I lose one suit I freak out because of the cost and I do not like to go red in a match unless I really wanted to win.
Running proto and loosing it to another proto I am Ok with it, but to lose to anything militia make me want to rage quit. If you outplay me that's one thing, but if we are going toe to toe and you win for some reason that is beyond me, well F*** that.
So all in all run Advance or cheaper, bank the ISK and when the gods smile upon Dust and Proto is back to its Beta days I will run it and smite all who stands before me. |
