The problem with my advanced suit is that if I want to use my Carthum Assault Scrambler Rifle, I might as well throw it onto a suit that can stack two damage mods and still have over 800 ehp with plenty of regen...than a suit with only 1 damage mod, 600 ehp, and slower regen.
Why not just use the adv instead of the proto? The Carthum is WAY more accurate at range...meaning that if I use the adv scrambler, I'm having to rush in to get close enough to use it, whereas I can snipe with my carthum.
I have adv suits that I run more often (the most expensive of which is a forge gun fit), but if we're already doing well, or if I need to defend an objective, or I'm running with a good squad, I'll run proto most of the time.
I stopped using basic suits a long time ago because I really don't care about isk. I stay above 20 million, and I work my way up slowly to 30 million. Once I hit that point I'll just run proto as much as I like until I get back down to 25 million and I'll slow down again.
Honestly, if there isn't anything else to spend isk on, and I'm not involved in PC or a corp, why should I hoard it? I heard people have upwards of 400+ million. That's ridiculous! I have fun my trying out new fitting and new things because that's what proto lets me do. More modules does not mean more of the same, it means more room to fit different modules for versatility.
If you have 2 low slots, you can only fit two different types of modules...say a plate and a repair. 3 slots gives you access to a sprint mod, and maybe at 4 you can also run a profile dampener. Sure this might not be very survivable, but you never know until you try it out. Sure I might lose a lot of money just trying new things but that's what I enjoy.
The other thing is that if you get good at the game, isk starts to become something you don't worry about anymore. I usually make an average of 400k+ every match, even if some matches I throw away 3-4 200k suits. The thing is, there are some matches where I don't die a single time and I end up with plenty of isk profit. That's what I like about proto, it keeps me on the battlefield instead of dying and spawning back in all of the time. And no, I do not care about my kdr one bit (however it has gone up from 1.74 to 2.00 since 1.4) |
