Now go convince Sony. You think Sony is the "problem" ?
1. Sony is scared to **** about any piece of software fast tracked into their system, so the whole reason for the certification and testing process exists was about two months long and costed a decent amount of money. CCP negotiated it down to 2 weeks and lowered the fee substantially.
Microsoft still charges 12,000 USD + per certification process, no certification no patch, no game, no upload, no xbox live market placement.
2. Sony is cared to **** about allowing network traffic outside of their network controls and . CCP negotiated access to allow Dust 514 to talk to Tranquility and have Dust 514 clients receive information from Tranquility and hosts the game not on Sony Hardware.
Microsoft outright REFUSES the mere thought and all xbox live games must be hosted on xbox live servers.
3. Sony is scared to **** about any third party software taking over native functions of the PS3 outright replacing them. CCP negotiated with VIvox and Sony to come to terms to allow Vivox to be the official voice service for Dust 514, allowing voice communications to Eve Online players.
Microsoft's superiority complex believes that their system cannot be beaten and refuses such silly notions.
4. Sony is apprehensive of the idea of a Test server that is testing unproven software existing on their network consuming bandwidth and not being cost effective and non-profitable for the games in question that had test clients on the PS3.
============
So why is Sony seemingly bending over backwards?
Sony wants to attract MMOs, CCP was willing to suffer the console environment that is extraordinarily hostile in terms of software, legal, economics, logistics against such type of games. Sony has come a long way to be more than prepared to accept mmos as a regular lineup of games for not only the end of the ps3 cycle but also extending well into the ps4 plans.
Microsoft and World of Tanks developers are probably going to start seeing the same or similar issues very soon and its either going to destroy Microsoft's plans on MMO's AGAIN (this would be strike 3 then) Few other future MMOs are going to enjoy some headway that CCP has made for them already. While they would have to consolidate patches and patches may be as much as a month behind their PC counter parts none-the-less there is far less hassle for the folks on the PS4 instead of letting game ruining bugs wreck havoc on their game for months on end without a fix. |

Quake 4 when it first launched on consoles was practically dead on arrival because of game breaking bugs. |

So you meant to tell us that bug fixes are going to be a lot faster on a PS4? And that is because of the PS4 / Sony changes? Or has CCP something to do with it because of the points you have written a little above?
Processes for fixing PS4 game bugs should be faster between the studio having a fix and it getting to the customers.
Now studios that can't seem to fix their bugs that well are going to be in the same position.
Now if we hop the fence to see where Sony's policies are very beneficial I present this next victim

A year later he finally gets the money to fix it

then sadly

Now nothing I am saying is against the idea of test servers. I just don't see it being feasible sound during the current roadmap with these rapid fire patches we're making. If we were oh say a 3 month patch cycle a test client would be feasible for us and CCP to utilize in testing stats numbers and features provided that current qualification processes still goes forward.
If the test client somehow gets 'special' status to forego QA all together... who knows.
Until then CCP will have to handle the talk with Sony on a Test very when CCP feels they're in a good position to being able to bring it up. The other MMO's coming from PC to PS3/4 however already have the advantage of the PC versions own test server for the things they normally test on them, numbers. |
