Just got done having a conversation with a corp mate about aim assist I don't want to share my personal experience on aim assist to avoid trolling and argument on this thread but am willing to give my personal experience on both sides.
How do you guys feel about aim assist? I am sorry I can't upload videos but I would if I could showing me playing with it off and on.
This thread isn't for arguments but so that people can share their personal experiences with it so that CCP may take feedback on it. |

I initially thought the aim assist was a little bit over the top,..and then I jumped on the bandwagon stating ccp had sneakily nerfed it (based on other peoples observations and my own). After ccp stated they have not touched it after 1.4, I have reassed my judgement based on further observations.
For most parts aim assist is ok as is. However, there is a "sweet spot" (distance wise) on every gun which I feel the aim assist is slightly too strong, where it actively moves the crosshair for me. I have noticed this with the laser rifle, and it seems not connected with the gun's optimal range. This can still be reduced slightly.
But overall I think is ok |

Funny thing is, is that people are saying it is OK now that they "stealth nerfed" aim assist. Can someone say placebo effect? |

It allows those with bad aim to hit, and those with good aim to pretty much never miss. So I guess it's kindof fair, we just have to utilize cover more effectively now. Which I think everyone has now adapted to doing. |

The Aim Assist isn't about stat's or K/D/R...
It's about the way DUST works, when you die... your suit/vehicle and modules are lost... And that is a consequence that no player want's to think a computer assisted with...
It ruins the concept of DUST and EVE, and it ruins the feel of the game where each individual Mercenary has his/her own worth...
I have seen new players only suffer more from the hands of mediocre to highly skilled players... The feature is not something that helps a new player with fine point aiming... its a feature that with practice will track sprinting and jumping targets, and even blow up their hit boxes so bullets are registering on them when they are well behind cover.
As it stands right now in skilled hands it's a tool to be abused.
The worst part of all of this experience is what the playerbase has been put through with endless Isk loss purely because of no moderation.....
Going from no aim assists in 1.3 to one of the strongest in online FPS shooters in 1.4.... just lack's Tact..
Seriously what boss or person who's responsibility with end product decisions was it to go from black to white and think it would go over well in a community that has been in damage control since uprising launch?
In all honesty... i miss playing dust with my friends... And as it stands right now its thrown a lot of its uniqueness away to copy bubblegum shooter titles.. And its got to the point that its similar enough to be pointless to play....

I'm not afraid of being trolled, fear does not reside here.
This was my thread of aim assist nerf and here are my opinions.

I turned it on the other day again(usually have it off but I wanted to run dual SMG) I forgot to turn it back off. I was position perfect with m allotek burst AR, lined headshot up on unsuspecting target, just as i went to hit target a guy ran past him, gun clicked onto him. wrong target took the hit, 2 players alerted.... buncha crap.
Personally I think the mechanism that makes it line to a target is fine, that works well, thats aim assist. The mechanism that makes it stay locked on is garbage, needs to go. that is auto aim |

aim assist is okay when you're new. it's fine for long-distance one-on-one's. if you're trying to fight more than one guy it will get you killed. |

The stealth fix was probably more related to network improvements not to the system itself. |

Short and sweet I think they need to treat Aim Assist like they treat Concord's actions in different security space in EVE..
People could pick what they want to play
High-Sec matches - Aim Assist on possible Gear restriction
Low-Sec matches - Aim Assist on no gear restrictions
Null-sec matches No aim Assist No gear restrictions (Higher isk payout)
I realize this would separate the already diminishing player base but would be interesting seeing it in action and may even improve the New Player Experience..

I think aim assist is pretty good these days. If your a good player, you'll still do good.
Everyone adapted. I think it is better for the new players. :] |

the aim assist should be removed from hip fire
to have the game aiming and tracking while you hip fire is a complete mistake |

It only makes sense break it up according to risk vs rewards and aim assist in a shooter is similar to NPC guards in an MMO as they both assist in helping you protect yourself...
I would see this solving the aim assist debate may start a new "you're a scrub becayse you only play In aim assist servers" debate lol but that's the competitive spirit! |

I think the balancing factor of aim assist in any game is that it makes it more difficult to fire exactly where you want (IE headshots)
Whether or not that's how it works in Dust, I don't know. |
