I requested this transition out of boredom from the capsuleer life, I wanted to test my strength in a new way. That path was very short lived, I needed a true test. In the Civire way, war born. Now I live... to die bleeding in the dirt. I fight for the State I make them pay for it , every inch. I've payed for it too, how many times have I caught flame inside a cockpit?.... Too many times.... A gritty death, inside cold steel. It's cold steel now, not the cold void of space. Nothing is better than picking off the enemy of the Caldari State behind a beautiful rail cannon. Coward they say? My brethren... How many times have you been cooked alive? It's not a slow death, not like you foot grunts. I serve as a defender, a future Enforcer of the State, to show the Gallente fools what real strength is. Behind cold steel, I back my brothers in arms as a pilot. Stomping resistance and transporting the troops when it gets to gritty. Anyone would like to save a death or two, not out of fear. Nah, the pain sucks, but it cuts into out pay too much. Or I back them as a crack shot with my Gunnlogi. You don't want to be in my rail scope.... I tend to giggle when I see some poor Gallente slob naild by a rail slug. Cold steel and blood, that is how I live my mercenary life

I was once tortured for 7 and a half months on an Amarr slave ship, they would not let me die. Nor would my superiors deactivate me, as they had no way of knowing about my whereabouts. I was lucky to die when the ship self destructed during a Minmatar ambush.

Admittedly if you were tortured you probably did something to deserve it. Lets not mistake the fact that all Empires would and do employ forms of torture to get information out of suspected spies, soldiers, etc.
