I would use a quick burst of my gun to notify the driver of any enemies I felt he might not have noticed, and if the driver wasn't worried about it, I wouldn't worry either (unless of course I had a realistic chance to kill the red, then I would attempt a kill). I tried to avoid shooting at anything the main gun was shooting at, didn't wanna kill steal, the vehicle assists were more than enough for me. If we cleared an objective I would immediately hop out to hack. If there was a serious threat to the tank (a dude with a swarm or a couple of dudes with AV nades) that the tank was unable to deal with, I would immediately hop out and attempt to deal with the threat or at least buy time to let the tank escape.
Then I started noticing tanks blowing up yellow supply depots and turrets (turrets are whatever, but really? You are blowing up supply depots?! I know why y'all do it but come on. Give me a shot at defending it first), even if they were a quarter inch over our red line. I started getting hit from behind and pushed forward 30 to 100 meters into a blob of reds (and swiftly killed) by a blue tank who could have easily taken a half second 50 meters back to let me get off his bumper. I started noticing blue tanks sitting waaaaaaay behind our red line on a mountain for the whole match because "I'm a Rail Sniper", only to get 2-4 kills the whole match ("I didn't lose my tank though" says John Q Tanker). And I started noticing how much QQing tankers do on the forums because, when you boil it down, they refuse to work with infantry or gunners and usually pay the price for it.
So I steer clear of blue tanks now a days, and rarely will I put my neck on the line for a blue tank. You guys got it under control by yourselves? Well then by all means, go for it. Once that single guy with Swarms or AVs chases you off or kills you, then I can jump in without fear of being run over and actually do something productive for the team.
I realize many tankers are fairly competent, and most of what I said only applies to a small few. But tankers need to realize many ground troops are fairly competent, and most of what what tankers say only applies to a small few. I know there are bad apples on both sides of this discussion making life crappy for drivers and footies, but life would be easier for everyone if we would all work together, and that responsibility falls on the shoulders of both sides equally. And I do fully understand that your (tankers) costs to run equipment are 1000 times greater than my costs (infantry). Help me help you! I don't even want to be in a tank now a days, but if I run into a good tanker I will stick to him like glue and make sure those naughty Swarms/AVs don't have free reign over my big buddy. Just don't run me over! And let me try to defend/take supply depots from time to time. I kinda need those.
And just in case any tankers read this and only want to acknowledge my 2nd and 3rd paragraphs: I apologize for offending you. Go ahead and play superman, just keep your QQing to yourself and remember, I am far more survivable alone on foot than you are alone in your metal coffin
