I would imagine we will know for sure whenever the 1.5 Dev Blog hits next week. QFT. My hope is that scanner WP will take the form of, say, +10WP scan assist when an enemy currently scanned by you is killed. WP should NOT be granted just for scanning, I would abuse that all day. |

There should also be a cap for how many wp's can be earned in this method so that players dont end up doing nothing but sitting in a spot and scanning maybe 200 wp's per match. Scanning will probably be closer to this. Awry, you say this would be abused, but you want to give 10 WP for every kill on a current scan. I've seen squad mates hit a scan, pick up 10 guys, and have the squad wipe all 10 of them out in 5 or so seconds. That's 100 WP right there. But no, that wouldn't be abused...... I run active scanners on pretty much every fit I use. I see myself sitting in a quiet exterior corner near a locked-down Dom objective and scanning 16 people every ~10 seconds for an entire match. That's about 100WP every minute for doing almost nothing, much more if you're giving 1/2 a point for every piece of equipment scanned. That's not even beginning to count what I could do with a Min Logi and 4 different scanners. At the very least, if it's kill based, you ensure that it's not *too* easy to farm. |

There are solutions for everything. I, personally, don't feel making the scan-ee's death a requirement for the scanner to receive WP is a good idea. If I kill some one I get WP. If I hack an objective I get WP. If I heal some one I get WP. If I scan someone I should get WP (I don't run scanners, just an example).
I suppose that makes sense. As someone who has been using scanners since 1.2, I've gotten used to thinking about the scanner as not intrinsically worth WP, but as tool that, when used properly, will net you far more WP than you would otherwise earn. A scanner lets me know where the enemy is and where they're looking, which means I get more kills, more hacks, etc. Basically, the information from the scanner is only as useful/valuable as what you and your team can do with it. It doesn't matter if you know where the whole enemy team is if that doesn't lead to their deaths. That's why I feel the scan needs to result in something more than just knowledge for the scanner to deserve WP. Capping WP gain from a particular action is not a very good approach IMO, we'll just see people bringing out scanners until they've hit their cap, then putting them away for the rest of the match. If my scans repeatedly result in the success of my team, I should be repeatedly rewarded until I stop being useful. I'm basing it off kills because I'm not sure how else to measure the "usefulness" of a given scan. To compare to nanohives- you get no WP if noone actually uses your nanohive to regain ammo/HP. |
