Honestly,
I find myself vacillating between hope and woe for Dust, to this day - after sticking with this project for over a year - when I read reports from Hans & Co. Like this http://hansshotfirst.blogspot.ca/.
Is it great that CCPs focus is on core development? Yes it is. That's the Hope part
Is it terrifying that CCP isn't going to push for expansion of the EVE/Dust link anywhere on the current roadmap (whatever the kitten that is-cuz they're not sayin)? Yes it is. And that's the Woe part.
Seen the news about iOS7, mobile gaming and where it's going? Where does that leave 'platforms' like Vita? Not that CCP has even mentioned development there beyond suggesting they are contractually tied to it with chains.
Feel the building heat of PS4 and AAA titles hitting this fall/winter season? Where does that leave a PS3 exclusive F2P fail launch struggling to find its footing and retain new players?
What have we heard about anything coming that would make a working, polished, balanced version of Dust compete against any other lobby shooter out now? PVE? Open World? Economics?
I am a CCP devotee. You have to be to stick it out this long. 2007 ( my Eve birthyear) feels like light years ago and Fanfest 2011, that drew my and others toward the gravity well that Dust promised seems a galaxy far far away.
Now...right now...I could use a serious pep talk from someone in the know about why staying the course still holds the promise of potential that has brought myself and a few thousand others this far.
Come on, Shanghai! Want to know what you have to lose by continuing your lack of transparency?
What have you to gain?! I for one would like to know. Why not spell out where you are really at and where you are going with Dust? I understand that your accelerated update cycle stops the potential for feedback and exchange with your player base. I am ok with that because of the quality improvements we saw in 1.4. But what next?
And I am not even referring to 1.5 or 1.6. And I am not even looking for a feature list in 1.7 or beyond. I would just like to see some honest blue communication about where you, CCP, think Dust stands currently, and where you'd like it to be in a certain number of months...and how you want to survive and compete as a F2P title in the market you are in
Would disclosing that kind if information threaten or weaken your position? |
