I'm not sure if its intended or not but seeing as remote explosives are a form of equipment I am definitely wondering if the fact you cannot scan a remote explosive is evidence of them not being counted as equipment.

I myself am only using basic and advanced scanners, but a friend of mine uses proto scanners and all of our scanners have yet to detect a remote explosive.

So, is this intended behavior or a minor missing identification for remote's being a form of equipment?

Are you sure the other team actually had Remote Explosives deployed in your scan radius?

REs behave differently in other ways too. Namely restocking from supply depots and nanohives.

The restocking is intentional as far as I know though.

Have you tried scanning REs with the high precision proto scanner? Perhaps they just have a lower signature.

I use the normal proto scanners and I've never seen an RE show up. That could just be people not using them though.

Just got into a battle 30 or so minutes ago from this posting with an enemy using a bunch of RE's. managed to find one of his RE's and thoroughly scan it with my advanced quantum scanner. It did not pop up on radar or visually as scanned. Afterwards I shot and blew it up to confirm it was an enemy RE.

I should mention that it was a basic level RE.

So yeah, if it is a case of scan profile being lower on RE's that would mean that a basic level RE has lower than 36? That's hard to believe. I still think its just odd that uplinks and nanohives pop up regardless of tech level to any level scanner and this one deployable item cannot be detected.

Working as intended, I'd say. Sneakiness is the one thing that remotes have going for them (unless you're hucking them like grenades which requires no sneakiness). Making them show up on scans would kill a large part of their usefulness.

Both nanohives and drop uplinks have visible signatures outside of the unit itself (column of energy and ground pulse from the DU, and nanite bubble for the nanohives) so they are meant to be spotted fairly easily. It makes sense that they show up on scans.

It'd add an interesting dynamic to the game if the equipment you dropped matched your scan signature. So if your scanning profile was sufficiently low, your uplinks/nanohives/whatever wouldn't show up on scans that didn't detect you either.

Explosives do need their stealth. I wouldn't mind if the super precision proto scanner picked them up though.

I'd like to see hive and uplink variants with worse stats but lower profiles once the scanning system is fleshed out a bit.

Apparently the icon for them will show up in the future. Oh well, I guess we'll all be using them like grenades from then on.

 Way to go, CCP.

From your perspective it can be tottle ordinary that they can not be detected by scanning modules because of they stealthy purpose. But on HAV pilot perspective it look a bit different - I do not remember that I have ever detect PE on me HAV, and I have skills that should do that for me, if they doesn't work it's pointless to have them.

I guess the REs you are talking about couldn't have been deployed after you initiated your scan?
