Hi guys,
A dedicated sniper here.
There are no ladders or climbable structures on the new maps (that I can find). They are quite wide open and the new sockets are mostly enclosed (some are completely enclosed). Most of the objectives are now completely hidden from the outside.
The enclosed sockets keep the fight in places that are hidden from us.
We can't help cover our teams when they go after objectives and can't cover the objectives once they are hacked.
CCP are starting to sniper-proof the maps and objectives. I didn't think we were that much of a problem.
Would you guys put in a word for us, please?

Tis a good idea, but I don't view this as a something that is a trend. They have 9 total maps with 3 large sockets. 1 large socket is open to snping, a second offers sniping from with in it, and the 3rd is pretty much immune. Additionally, the medium sockets seem to have the same distribution as well.
I think part of what is skewing this is that CCP amped up the odds of getting the new maps because people are burnt out on the old ones. I would look for the old maps to become more prevalent in the future again. Also, additional new maps and sockets that are more vehicle centric will probably also be more sniper friendly as well.
EDIT: but yes I agree that sniping has been hurt since Uprising came out overall. |

CCP has made maps along the lines that certain classes and game play will not be viable for all situations forcing soldiers to either adapt to the scenario by better positioning or by doing something else. Equally there should be maps favoring those certain types of game play so for example the new caldari outpost in the works screams sniper map as there are seemingly no walls protecting its occupants from the outside, with wider roads less nooks and crannies it seems to be a better vehicle map as well while still allowing standard squads to pit themselves against each other.
However if you took a look at the new minmatar socket... that place looks like ambush hell. Tanks would abhor the mere thought of entering that area. |

Additionally, it shouldn't be possible for a sniper nowhere near a point to hold a point. That's the main problem CCP is addressing with the new socket designs. In reality, a great deal of time is spent running between sockets, and that is where snipers dominate. They have the ability to prevent the enemy from pushing into an area. |

There are still plenty of good sniping spots on the new maps but the designs now mean that you can't just sit in the exact same place for an entire match and get plenty of kills. You have to reposition every few minutes or you're going to see nobody and get no more kills for another 5 mins. Also, sitting in "safe spots" like back in your red line or on top of the tallest building you can find should not reward anyone; it's called risk and reward - no risk = no reward. |

The problem lies with redzones and that's why they had to build these maps.Players can redzone snipe and nobody can hack the obj without getting thaled and you cant even go after the sniper because they are hiding like a little pansy way in the redzone. Im all for open objectives just so long as I can kill whoever is sniping it. |
